it should also be noted that this person is asking for money for typing sentences into bots that steal content from artists

Checked and found I already had them blocked. :D

DELETED

@cmdr_nova so the person posting those screenshots either controls the server or is in close contact with somebody who feels comfortable leaking stuff FROM the server

@nus yeah, I'm pretty sure it's the admin

I mostly use the reporting system to give myself an easy way to suspend accounts and instances in my admin interface, and also to poke fun at people like this, who are running an instance entirely based around theft. I'm sure he thinks I submitted it because I think he'll be banned but no haha I did that just to get under his skin

I don't like that you're using the report system to "get under a staff member's skin", but yeah, it also discomforts me to see this person posting a report with an instance name on it. Very harassment adjacent behavior.

And Nus, this is the instance owner.

Edit: I asked the instance owner here to remove the name from the post, and they went ahead and did that, so my complaint no longer applies.

@Raccoon @nus people like this deserve it and you'll never convince me they don't

DELETED

@Raccoon IMO sometimes applying a scratch test to moderation teams can be super valuable to get them to reveal their true colors.

I know, I can be a little annoying sometimes but sometimes moderators of popular Linux instances start talking about decapitating people.

Yeah, that wasn't too long ago, so it's a bit hard to forget. Still, my main issue was the posting of a report without removing the instance name, and they deleted the screenshot without complaining, so I don't really have an issue: AI generated stuff isn't against TechHub rules. It's fine if other instances want to have that rule, and I can see why you would, but we don't want to enforce that here.

@Raccoon @nus I guess it's your prerogative if you don't care about artists being disenfranchised all over the world, but you don't have to tell them

I had an issue with the screenshot, because it should not say the name of your instance like this, but when I asked the person who posted it, they quickly removed it. Posting it here for the reference of anyone who was more concerned about that than the AI.

@Raccoon @cmdr_nova i think its funny that their profile is like "if you like what i do, buy me a coffee!" tf. you drink water and fossil fuels, what good is coffee for you? i wish someone would fight club-ending all the ai servers.

prediction
in 10 or 15 years, current AI will be obsolete and everyone on tusker will be mourning the death of LLMs and there will be passionate calls to keep the traditions alive calls for open source LLM etc etc

I don't worry about art theft as much as about instances that use AI to conceal agitprop bot posting. AI art is... "neat," it won't ever surpass the quality of its sources, and really it's just a fancy copy and paste that anyone could do (less well) clipping out the art themselves. But AI empowered bots can overwhelm us in utter bullshit, turning our community into just another propaganda engine for venture capitalists.

Either way, keeping AI out of the Fediverse is advisable.
