@georgepenney This made me realize something: retirees show us (one of) the ways life would be better in a non-capitalist world. They still have physical and financial limits on what they can do, but when it comes to time... they can do whatever they want. Whatever they feel is most important, they can devote their time to it, and change on a whim if they like!
As a society we often judge retirees for spending their time on "frivolous" things, or caring about "petty" issues. They're the people who write full-page complaint letters about things that bother them! And... yeah. Unlike the rest of us, they can do that; they don't have a boss setting priorities.
Like, shit - how many little annoyances would you take care of, if you could? Broken traffic light. Wrong lunch order. They took out the bench by your bus stop. Your new shirt is a size too big. There are so many things where we decide that it isn't worth our limited free time to argue about it!
