It's such a fucking shame that we, having pretty much solved gaming (gaming!!!) would hit a stop-gap in the form of some lousy image editor.

And the saddest part is, in order to fix a problem like this, everyone involved has to agree that there's a problem.

Which in this case is the worst kind of problem because the people causing it have no reason to feel that it is a problem, therefore have no inclination to fix it whatsoever.

There's a major silver lining though:

Statistically, there's more gamers than artists and designers. So if we manage to snowball enough gamers into switching, the avalanche will sweep Adobe off their feet, they will *have* to follow.

@drq Adobe, being a for-profit organisation, probably did run a series of calculations at some point to decide is it worth it to solve a Linux compatibility for photoshop and then have a dedicated staff maintaining it and insuring compatibility of new features on time with update with other platforms + responding to all those Linux users saying "Why only Photoshop? When we will get all of yours 20+ products?" + insuring same performance on Linux to avoid backlash...
It is quite an investment if you think about it. So paradox remains — Photoshop will be ported to Linux only with enough artists and designers joining Linux, and those are going to onboard only with Photoshop already on board.

@Lemonid Being for-profit isn't a stand-in for being competent.

Just let it fucking run on Wine, and we'll take it. Also, they do have a Linux version according to the leaks, they just don't wanna sell it.

As I said in the consequent post, we'll probably still get there, eventually, due to gamers switching (if we don't fuck it up).

I actually don't give a shit about photoshop and their other crapware, I just wish they weren't such a huge fucking obstacle.
