Can't get over the fact that Black Mesa is probably the bestest video game remake ever created, and it's actually done by a bunch of nerds in their spare time who just love Half-Life series that much.

Looking forward to Blue Shift and Opposing Force parts to come out.

@drq
I paid for it full price, just for that.
Also, Black Mesa is good because the source material is good. I think we all underestimate how good Half-Life scenario is.

@ZeugmaFr I paid just as much for the same reason.

By the way, an important difference I found is, how Black Mesa is much heavier on puzzles than the source material. While it's a mechanic change showcasing the shift to the Source engine with its great physics model, it also plays really well into characterization. The game is telling you: "surviving this kind of disaster isn't going to be obvious. You're an exceptionally smart person (or at least you're playing as one, they don't hand out PhDs in physics to just anyone, and places like BMRF do not hire just for good looks) - figure it out. Good luck!" It's great.

@drq Poetically, that's how a lot of best Valve projects started, including Half Life, Team Fortress, Dota, Portal and Counter Strike series

@drq Another amusing consequence of Black Mesa is its art direction, and general gameplay style has bled into numerous maps and mods for the original game. Heck, there’s even a dedicated group of fans porting Black Mesa as a mod for Half-Life 1!

@pixelreality That's because BM's art direction captured the spirit of Half-Life so flawlessly and conveyed it in extra resolution. It just fits perfectly.

I can't stop losing my shit over the fact it was made by fans. I guess, if you want a perfect remake of your game - hire fans of your game, then?
