Every time #KamalaHarris says “We’re not going back,” I think of the many ways in which that is true for me. One of them: I’m not going back to private, commercial social media. Just as healthy democracies disperse the powers of the state, healthy social media avoids excessive concentration. I will make this point to the #Harris campaign when I get their attention for Mastodon for Harris. Let’s keep showing them they should be participating in this community. secure.actblue.com/donate/mast

@heidilifeldman
You could also ask them to stop making important announcements on Twitter.

@heidilifeldman and @JamesGleick I appreciate the thought behind what you said, but upon reflection…. why are we (the electorate) imposing our values on others? For #reasons campaigns have social media accounts on FB, Instagram, Threads, and X (this is specific to the United States). Most #Mastodon users can follow anyone on Threads (some instances blocked it). Is it not the voter’s responsibility to use *all* tools available to be informed? #harriswalz2024

@heidilifeldman Yes! I recently learned a lot of colleagues have moved to bluesky. While I’d love to reconnect with them online I have zero interest in giving my words and pictures to another billionaire or becoming a product to be bought/sold. No, thanks. So grateful for mastodon and (even with its flaws) the community here. 💞
