@Arataka I really would like to know which instance this is so I could suspend it. This is pretty not great. @chad *big long heavy sigh* … this, this is not the way. You hate to see it. @chad Beyond the weird factor... who would... pay money... to be responsible for hosting a bunch of people for free? I would totally get it if, like, it was a sustainable business and they wanted to hand it off, and there was some indication that there was a benefit... but like... who would even want this? @chad Have bankers contacted you yet concerning an IPO for mstdn.ca? If you added the words "cloud" and "AI" in the IPO brochure, you'd fetch a few billion dollars! @chad selling an entire fediverse instance like a battle.NET account with a decked out WoW account is. something i thought i'd never see. @chad I suspect that if any such sale went through, many admins would block the instance and the users would end up migrating elsewhere.. so even if there was money in running an instance (which there is not) that cash would quickly dry up. @chad@mstdn.ca are we surprised? the average person can now sell user data which goes for A TON of $$$. Hope none of you used your real emails or phone numbers and masked your images @chad@mstdn.ca only the user data could be imagined to have some "value". other than that whoever buys an instance is actually just buying themselves server bills and admin work. |
@chad Yeah we definitely don't want this Discord Culture to come over to the Fediverse. Should reject stuff like this and not let it stick because unlike selling a discourse server a Mastodon, Sharkey, Misskey, Or Akkoma instance has a user's IPS, Emails, Private Messages, Private Accounts, and not to mention hashed passwords. Yikes and smh to the ower selling that instance. Everyone on it should leave ASAP.
