Blogs are still a thing, and blogs have always been a thing. They didn't go anywhere. My technical blog is thriving.

People come back to old posts constantly.

Something I posted 10 months ago is still my top performing post. Social media posts are ephemeral & if something happens to your content - it's gone.

Host your own blog, control your content. My social media posts may max out at 500-1000 views but my page views have a consistent baseline of 30k/a month. And I haven't posted in a bit.

@seaotta @adactio I've got a quiz on my site that's over 20 years old & had 100K views in the past year, dismayed when I see people shovelling out amazing work & not giving it a permanent home

@mattround @seaotta @adactio I love that timeline on your website โ™ฅ๏ธ

@seaotta I started blogging again earlier this year because I wanted to put all my content in one place, keep an history of all of my content that I used to write on my different social medias presences. It's been a motivational kick-in-the-ass to push me to write again, and I'm quite happy about using my blog again :)

@sekhmetdesign @seaotta yeah, I know I have some slapping #birdsite threads buried in that archive. Just, digging through would be such a slog.
Hated that storify closed
Tried using Wakelet then they blocked me from making stuff public because they're giant ignorant prudes about anything with the word 'sex' in it, despite claiming to be an educational platform.

@seaotta The most visited post on my blog is 8 years old. I'd have to look into db for precise numbers, I've implemented analytics in a way that don't give me numbers, just what people like, it's much better for my mental health.

@seaotta blogs are good yes, and WordPress even has activitypub support now! For anyone with something longform to say it's ideal.

@seaotta never reached that level but yes! Never wanted to put my content behind someone else's platform
Even if it's not even that good... Especially if not, even!

@seaotta Totally agree. My personal website recently passed over one-million total views. It's one of my most successful online personal projects and I totally recommend it. Rewarding too.

@seaotta Amen! Recently got back into blogging myself. Any tips about where to link it to help folks find it? Just hashtagging #blog isnโ€™t really leading to much ๐Ÿ˜‚

@seaotta

It is surprising to see people responding to old posts here. Like year old posts.

I always wonder how they stumbled upon them.
