@Pourroy @stux each car would have to cost 3 million dollars. You'd exhaust the luxury car supply at that rate before the month is over.

Ash_Crow

@sophieschmieg @Pourroy @stux if cars aren't expensive enough, what about watches?

Starting with a Breguet Marie-Antoinette Grande Complication (30,000,000$), we can add a Chopard Carat and a Patek Philippe Supercomplication Henry Graves (25,000,000$ each), then a Jacob&Co Billionaire (18,000,000$)

There, with even 2 million left for a car.

@sophieschmieg @Pourroy @stux Nobody said they'd have to be delivered within that timeframe. Only that you'd have to spend the money.

Like, you can exhaust that within a day. Buy 100 2-Room apartments in major cities over the internet, done.

SRE: But you'd only be giving me enough budget for eleven months of operations!

@stux I want to buy Villa Certosa from the Berlusconi's heirs, the price is €500M, you still owe me €400M Genie...

Coffee Pinewood

@stux You'd just buy real estate and land... easy.

Urzl

@stux Inflation being what it is, these challenges are getting easier.

@stux but I really want to factor a 1024 bit RSA number!

@sophieschmieg I was going to follow you based on this, then found that I already did.

/me ~buys~ puts a down payment on a cottage in San Francisco.

Done.

@stux If the challenge is to undertake the obligation, then it is easy: real estate, super yacht, private jet, business, et cetera. If the task is to complete the transaction and take delivery it might be harder because those tend to either have complex purchasing processes or long lead time for delivery.

OTOH you can buy that much on the stock market in a few days, even using online brokerages.

Marty Fouts

@mensrea @stux buying stocks is only gambling if you do it expecting to make money. ;)

Marty Fouts

@ryanc @mensrea @stux business was the fourth item on my list. ;)

@stux I look forward to this version of Brewster's Millions (of containers).

Attila Kinali

@stux Take two dozen scientists, tell them that they get as much money as they want for their research project, if they can write a decent proposal. First come first served. Then count the seconds until the money is gone.

Attila Kinali

@stux And yes, I would just continue with that, after I got the billion.

Arik

@stux With the world these days it will take you over a month to complete the AML procedure with your bank. It will be difficult to convince them that "a genie" suddenly gifted you 100M. And forget about cash transactions.

Jer

@stux This is why we haven't seen a modern day remake of Brewster's Millions.

Andreas K

@stux There are other clouds as willing to take your money.

GPU hours are expensive everywhere.

@stux If I remember, according to Brewster's Millions rules, any assets you buy don't count as spending since you still own the asset.

mos_8502 :verified:

@stux 100,000,000? I can spend that in ten minutes. Just buy a shitload of stocks. Hell, I could buy out several small corporations. Boom, give me my billion.

mos_8502 :verified:

@stux Hell, no stocks, I’ll just make above-market cash offers on every disused property in my city, and fund the construction of low income housing on them.

@stux @celestradiol buy myself a villa outside a major city along with a luxury condo which should be the bulk of it. Then hire a high class cleaning company and sign a long term all upfront contract to maintain both.

Puck Rickenbacker

@stux
I need 3 homes on the water. 2 in Florida and one in the Caribbean, preferably a private island. 4 boats. 3 midsize electric vehicles with solar to charge them and houses. Furnishings. A new pair of cut offs and a couple new swim tops. Fishing gear for friends use.

And a proper Captain for the larger boat, I just do inshore. That should about cover it. Gimmie my billion so I can help others, now.

cowvin

@stux I mean it's pretty easy to spend that much money. Like browse Zillow and just start buying houses until 100M is hit. In expensive areas, that would be super easy.
