@nixCraft@mastodon.social pushes to prod because flora doesn't give a fuck anymore @nixCraft I managed 2 (yes, TWO) PCs with Windows 10 at a small restaurant. The updates were disabled and I did security updates only on Mondays on holiday manually after running a UrBackup live image snapshot. Actually, my original plan was to image the working machine, run the restaurant managing software and see what happens after updates but the software provider didn't allow a secondary license for testing. I heard Azure servers got down, this is unbelievable. Pfffffh... Did it three times today. Btw in Germany we have a company "even on Fridays". @nixCraft@mastodon.social Why not? This way the IT stuff has the whole weekend to fix their systems 🤪 https://mastodon.social/@isabel@akko.isabelroses.com/112812679269174568 @nixCraft got the whitespace working @nixCraft FYI, today is indeed my last day at an IT job and I do have some cards not in prod yet... @nixCraft exactly do it on Monday and frick up the whole workweek right from the getgo like we do 😆 @nixCraft , discovered my bug yesterday, so going to spend all day, and all weekend fixing it. Sadly, on my own time. @soundconjurer@mstdn.social @nixCraft@mastodon.social noo, you should be able to have a weekend as well. And if you don't, you should at least be paid for it. | ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄| @nixCraft Most of these companies it seems their test *is* prod. If their test networks had BSOD we'd never have needed to hear about it. @nixCraft I need one of these for my company that has pushed production updates during production hours and halted production. Every day this week while we were being audited externally. @nixCraft ...unless you're set up to do continuous delivery. Judging from the replies, I guess most people still aren't. Never push on Friday. Don't push on Thursday either, because of time zones it's somebody else's Friday. Monday is right out, you can't blow the whole company's week. Tuesday either, see timezones, it's somebody else's Monday. Because of all that, everyone has to get all their work done on Wednesday, so you totally can't push then. If only folks had a pilot group of test or QA systems that could update a week before the main fleet. Hmmm... @pseudonym @nixCraft "...and this is why we're pleased to introduce our new initiative, the 6 day work week!" 🙃 ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄| @nixCraft , yup! I was trying to download a Visual Studio plugin and it was not happening last night for a while and Azure was hosed. I don't know when it went down, but came up within the hour. Only working on Windows for my job. 🥲 @nixCraft @Jackiemauro esp for a company whose engineering team sits in Israel and is literally not allowed to work for the next 24 hours. |
