@peertube Awesome! Love how this gets better and better! Congrats on this release 😊

@peertube Isn't Whisper an OpenAI product? openai.com/index/whisper/
Does that mean that every video uploaded to PeerTube is feeding data to OpenAI products/datasets?
Please clarify this, OpenAI data handling is a privacy nightmare.

LinuxUserGD

@RiQuY @peertube It's possible to run Whisper locally so it might be processed on the PeerTube instance directly I think

Tc001

@RiQuY @peertube Whisper can be run locally which is what I assume they are using

Booteille

@RiQuY @peertube As other people said, PT is running a local instance of Whisper, so no data is being sent to OpenAI.

TheFrenchGhosty

@RiQuY @peertube

github.com/openai/whisper it's FOSS

Also, OpenAI scrape everything anyway, so it doesn't change much

bagh

@RiQuY @peertube I think they mean Whisper as local running model, not through API or something

@peertube

After verifying the production.yaml the update went smootly...

@peertube spreading OpenAI/Microsoft software usage in libre software is a very bad move IMHO. Your historic links with @Framasoft should remind you technological choices like this are not neutral. Do you endorse OpenAI way to build #whisper?
Integrating whisper in peertube is like selling organic avocados from 20000km away in an organic store.

@fcayre @peertube @Framasoft I think that's until open source models start to emerge.
Also if companies use/exploit #foss why shouldn't we exploit them, by using their tools without paying a dime?

@fcayre @peertube @Framasoft #peertube is already hosted on #github and as #mozilla #deepspech project has been stopped I don't see many good alternatives and I consider having some on-premise system is much better than needing to use some third-party service. And you don't have to use that feature.

Florent ⏚

@benedikt I expect organic stores not to sell avocados from the other side of the planet when they can no more find some from a close region. Because as a customer I trust their choices in that matter. Same for @mozilla before their implemented DRM in #firefox (and more anti-features since then) and same for
@peertube because a lot of people trust them, as top libre projects, to not distribute software that do not respect users like #OpenAI #whisper.

@alonefree @peertube Buenas para buscar vΓdeos solo tienes que usar su buscador:

sepiasearch.org/

Y para publicar o comentar tienes que crearte cuenta en una instancia como fediverse.tv/

O alguna de las que listan en :

joinpeertube.org/instances

@peertube Pretty useful things. I'm not a big fan of AI but if it runs locally on instances it's kinda ok, it's actually a good usecase.

Nice too see PT improve, there are only 2 features I still miss:
1. comment reactions (like, dislike, heart)
2. Markdown support in video descriptions (I know other Fediverse platforms probably couldn't handle this well, so it wouldn't be too practical)
