New app:

Menu Bar Spacing

Customize the gap between menu bar items

MacBooks have limited menu bar space. This app reclaims space by reducing the gap between menu bar items.

@NateBarham It can only apply globally, not per app.

This could eliminate the need for Bartender/Ice for some users.

And it can also let you fit more of my menu bar apps in your menu bar: sindresorhus.com/apps/menu-bar

@sindresorhus I found it funny how you said "Modern Macs have limited menu bar space" when things like the XDR or other widescreen displays have almost infinite menu bar space 🙂 (even laptops like the 16" MBP)
Cool app! (as usual)

@helge Good point. I changed it to "MacBooks". And the app can also do the opposite, give more breathing room between items for large displays.

@sindresorhus I’m actually using it in conjunction with Ice. Gotta eke out every last pixel of space I can (I think I have too many menu bar apps 😵‍💫)

@sindresorhus The amount of ideas you have for those little utilities is just mind blowing.

Cool stuff.

@sindresorhus nice 😊 I had an idea for a tiny menubar app. I recently bought a router which auto switches you between 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, and channels/wavelength etc. I’ve gotten a bit obsessed with checking the WiFi menu (via holding option) to see which one I’m on. Would love a menubar app that constantly shows this info. I was going to look into building this myself (and still may) but it seems like one of those do-one-thing ideas that you love…?

@wstone I mostly make apps to solve my own needs, so it's unfortunately not something I would make. However, it should not be too hard to do with xbarapp.com

@sindresorhus Fun fact: This can be done in Linux with CSS via Gnome Shell.
