Now I'm reading about the town of Toowomba. Wikipedia has a detailed but inconclusive section on where it got this name from. (It's sad the knowledge wrapped up in that name and its history appears to be lost.) @frogglin Thinking more about this, since most of the explanations for the name Toowoomba involve words about swamps, that map is entirely accurate. The rest of Australia really is insufficiently woomba. (Don’t worry, I’m backing out of this rabbit hole now.) @stenhaastrup @frogglin It's missing Iaeland and Ibeland north of Iceland, and Iseland etc south of Ireland ;) @stealthradek @frogglin Careful there, extrapolation is a lot less reliable than it interpolation @stenhaastrup @frogglin Keep going in that direction. You’ll go through the entire alphabet and start over, passing through New Iceland, New Ireland, and eventually ending at … New Zealand. @drmaddkap @stenhaastrup @frogglin And ultimately to New Zzzland, which actually is a Southern Rock cover band. @frogglin I had a roommate from Toowoomba and it sounded like less woomba is really where you want to be @frogglin Perth. (Earth). Kangaroo island. (Kangaroo mainland). Broome. (Swept). Nullarbor plain. (More interesting with trees) @anne_twain @Shobeck @frogglin Hilarious to me - I live in one but all my family are in the other 🤣 @frogglin oh my god. I haven't lived in Australia since 1997 and as soon as I saw the caption on the green I knew it was going to be Toowoomba and I still laughed really hard. @frogglin it reminds me of the time a friend and I were at an airport and in the international section there was a huge map of the world and he pointed at "Wuhu" in China and exclaimed "Woohoo" @frogglin surely there’s a donut around Toowoomba that is just right? A sort of woomba Goldilocks zone? @frogglin |
