Dear people using hometown, I made a small mockup showing a direction I'd like the post visibility options to go in, in the native hometown frontend. @darius said he'd «be curious to hear other people's thoughts on it,» so please comment. Here or github.com/hometown-fork/homet

@j12i hashtag lurkers, please check out the above proposal!

@j12i @darius I like this better than simply putting local only as a posting privacy option (replaced unlisted is a suggestion I've seen). But I'm not sure this is better than the current check box chain broken/unbroken.

Priority for us would be preserving functionality for mobile users (even if it's the emoji workaround) and keeping how it looks in web vs most mobile apps at least somewhat consistent. This proposal does that? But again can't decide if its better than the current implementation...

@mart0 @j12i this is pretty much my line of thinking too

@darius @mart0 @j12i if this would mean you could do local only posting from Tusky or other mobile apps then I'm 100% into it.

@pp @mart0 @j12i this only applies to the web interface. But you can already local post from apps, you just need to define a custom emoji named "local_only". Then if you include that emoji anywhere in a post on a phone app, your post is now local only

@pp @mart0 @j12i and phone apps are already smart enough to reply to local posts as local (or rather, I made hometown smart enough)

@pp @mart0 @j12i here are the exact details of how phone apps handle local only

Though I believe Metatext for iOS does support a local posting toggle for hometown servers!
