 The hashtags tab has received a makeover and now includes the ability to create Hashtag Lists! Curate multiple hashtags into a single timeline that you can access the same way you can access regular Lists. Currently available to try on Mac and iOS over on TestFlight. The last beta featured our new share sheet extension and we know it’s been a long wait for the App Store release, but we are almost there! Trying to finish up a few more tasks so we can get this big update out ASAP. 59 comments
@deanfx We already have a bunch of testers. But if feedback seems really slow, we might open up new slots and post here. @ivory I’ve been keeping my eyes open. I assure ya I’ll be a great help; and able to test on all device platforms.  @Craktok Yes we were hoping to get this out before this year's WWDC, but…well here we are now. 🤦♂️😅 Next year!  @leebennett No we just link to a limited open invitation every once in awhile when we feel we need more people testing. Since we don't spam users with posts here, we recommend turning on user notifications for our account so you don't miss a post that might be an invitation to get on testflight. Totally up to you though. 🙂  @ivory strangely, when applying the update I was told it wasn’t installed. But upon relaunching I see the new tab. @ivory I sent in an email bug report that seems to be a problem for regular lists. When switching between them, the message list doesn’t update. Downgraded to GA and it behaves normally. Also tried clearing account caches and this seemed to have no affect on the behavior.  @ivory Love it! Will the hashtag lists also populate in the Home feed? Or do we need to follow the individual hashtags for them to appear there? And do the lists sync between devices? @chase They are separate. Following hashtags always appear in your home timeline and Hashtag Lists are for creating separate tag-based timelines. @ivory Got it. Thank you! The lists do not currently appear to sync between devices. Any chance in adding that? It'd be great to have the same hashtag lists available on each of my devices. @chase We will eventually. Want to make sure there aren't any bugs first. @ivory would it be possible to have Ivory make a hashtag list out of our featured hashtags? That’d be a great improvement on an already good new feature. @SuperSideshow No they are completely separate things. Hashtag lists are very specific and you can only have a max of 4 per list. It's just the way they work in Mastodon.  @ivory Okay this is lovely. You guys are doing an awesome job and love the app. Well done and big thanks. @ivory I made a hashtag list (on iOS) and immediately wanted to tweak it but can’t find a place to edit, only to view or delete. Did I miss it? @Himalaya No. You can just not go to that tab if you don't want to see it. It's a part of Mastodon. @Himalaya I don't understand. There’s subsections within the Explore tab. News isn't default and if you never go to news, you'll never see it. You can freely search without ever seeing the news. @ivory search and explore should be different. Search means I know what I want to search for and I want to see that. Search for people and post can be separated. Explore, on the other hand, means I want to explore into an unknown. I don’t know what I want, I just want to see what is going on all around mastodon or my server. In this explore tab even if I switch to people, I am seeing suggestions that are not useful to me(even when I don’t type anything ) There are no recent searches as well. @ivory this is so cool! Looking forward to it! Will it be possible to hide the hashtags from the main personal timeline that are included in a hashtag list? @tblaette Followed hashtags and Hashtag lists are 2 separate features. Just unfollow the hashtags you don't want to see in your main timeline and add them to Hashtag lists. 🙂  @ivory Switching lists on the home timeline won't work with this version. It seems to switch but always shows "Home". @schalksernst Will fix that bug soon. If on iOS, you can try resetting your account cache. Some users have reported that fixed it for them. @ivory How's it going with getting threads to display in the timeline? I feel like that's the absolutely biggest thing missing from the app right now. @svedberg It already works as best as it can. You have to search for a specific Threads account in the explore tab and if that account has enabled fediverse connectivity, you should be able to follow it. That's the current extent of how things work. @ivory Ah - sorry! I meant a "threaded-view" - something like how Elk and most other third-party apps does it (see screenshot) @svedberg It is threaded, we just don't draw lines. They are separated by gaps. But we do plan to make big improvements to threads in the future. @ivory Ah, gottcha! However most apps shows the view if there’s a relevant replay from somebody you follow. Not having that makes me loose a lot of context @ivory Nice - it really makes the timeline feel more alive and dynamic, so good to hear you are thinking about it! 👍 @ivory great! any news on being able to browse other instances? It is literally the last feature I am waiting for before I subscribe. @ingenieur Not yet. Still on our list, but we have a couple more things to get through before that one. @jglypt Hopefully very soon. We are finishing up a couple more things on our list. @ivory Hashtag lists are a wonderful feature. It’s been in @IceCubesApp for some time and it makes using Mastodon so much more enjoyable.
