@bitsavers Who needs history, education, knowledge and imagination for „Generation Touchscreen“ … when a rich person can make more money from cultural goods, esp. after no public body cared to keep a museum around? 🤑 It just turns into a tax deduction for Vulcan Sadly, LCM was never a non-profit (they never completed the paperwork before he died) @bitsavers Once this collection is broken up it will be astronomically more difficult to recreate such a museum. Unfortunate.  @bitsavers looking forward to seeing them show up as props in the next transformers movie before being scrapped @bitsavers I will be angry at Paul Allen forever. He had his toys while he was alive and didn’t care about anything after that. I gave one private tour of CHM for him (just him and me) and the only thing he was interested in was what might be available for him to buy. I'm hoping some institution will obtain the software and documentation collection and make it publicly accessable. Vulcan was never willing to do that over IP concerns.  @bitsavers Once again the ultra rich are going to loot from society by way of a Christies auction.  @bitsavers @splorp So wild that instead of donating as much as possible to other museums, they’re gonna auction it off and all this history will just disappear. It sounds like they are going to try to sell a tiny fraction of what is there. There have been numbers floating around for years that they wanted seven figures for the entire collection. Basically wanting every penny Paul ever put into it back. @bitsavers @soundclamp @splorp whatever happened to the ultra wealthy leaving behind a positive legacy rather than just inheritance money? I despise the perverted nature of ultra wealth. @bitsavers What a shame. I went there years ago and it was my favorite spontaneous visit on my vacation to Seattle. It was the closest I ever was to a mainframe and an Alto.
