But this only means it's on hold. We have to keep the fight and keep educating the politicians and parties to make them understand why it's not only a bad draft but a bad idea alltogether.

This is a small victory, but great nonetheless.

@privacyguides Well that’s some good news, at least. Now what do we do to keep these folks from attempting to push some variation of this down our throats every however-many years?

Jonah Aragon

@aral @privacyguides yeah, I was thinking about that yesterday. There's not really a mechanism to *prevent* this AFAIK... as if a legislative body would ever place limits on themselves.

Mario

@aral @privacyguides i guess you prosecute them now for attempting to legalise crime. In the future, the next clown will think twice before making a similar attempt.

@aral @privacyguides Do what the Sicilian men of honour do when a rat sells them out to the feds.

@aral @privacyguides (Whack β€˜em! Not lethally; just enough to knock some sense into them.)

@privacyguides it will be revived again but hopefully the pressure is kept up.

@privacyguides phew!
Once again I have more faith in EU politics than the corrupt shitshow that is US politics.
Nobody is perfect but at least some in the EU try.
And UK politics? Who cares, we're not important now.

Another thing we can do is support and adopt tech that can help make such laws ineffective, at the same time as addressing existing weaknesses of citizen law and pathetic enforcement. And push back on the enclosure of online spaces by corporations.

For me that's #privacy focussed #p2p tech such as #Autonomi.

@happyborg @privacyguides One question please:

Is there any cryptocurrency token involved?

Thanks.

happyborg

@islamicaudiobooks
In order to create a way for people using services and providing the nodes that enable those services (such as storage and communications) there is a utility token, but this is very different to what most people understand by cryptocurrency.

So for example it doesn't involve a blockchain, is energy efficient, scales and is accessible to anyone who wants to run a node (e.g. on a Laptop, Raspberry Pi etc).

This enables the network to be truly autonomous.

@privacyguides Don't relax, this is at best a tactical regrouping.

@privacyguides Every time this proposal is made, it emboldens authoritarians the world over. Even the attempt of passing it is harmful to the world.
