@mekkaokereke @adamgreenfield What definition of "venture capital" are you squinting at? Really asking. I have no objection to the idea of capital investment, the gathering together of large quantities of money to invest in resource-intensive development. And capital investment certainly can be public. But the added "venture" part, to me, suggests there must be a direct, monetary return on that investment (rather than an indirect social benefit), which in turn means it always will be corrupted by (to use @pluralistic's neologism) "enshittification," the intentional corruption of a good thing to squeeze back $ to repay investors.
