This only marginally has anything to do with Apple deleting the 3.5mm jack.
It has everything to do with 3rd party vendors not being able to access Lightning chips, but having access to Bluetooth chips.

Remember the original iPhone’s recessed jack?
Remember the Video iPods non-standard TRRS jack which swapped one audio channel and video?
Remember the proprietary controls on original iPods?
Remember the plethora of proprietary and 2.5mm jacks on Sony Walkmans, Ericsson, Nokia, Siemens phones?
