@stux doing a show like this and then vanishing again as fast as you arrived would be a very powerful move xD

Apicultor 🐝

@stux Cute, but overdubbed audio at the end kinda ruined it. 😕

Ruth O’Day

@CKL

Ahh, thank you. I have heard it before and liked it.

For some reason I associate it with a French film.

@stux

Chris Kletsch

@RuthODay @stux you're welcome.

I associate this melody with... _something_ in my past, but I don't know exactly what. This bugs me a lot. But it was something I liked...
It's not the movies this was used in, according to Wikipedia at least.

Cybarbie

So is CircleCityCon still going or no? #infosec

Cybarbie

Where does relik/HackingDave hang now?

Alles für den Ground

@stux those people ain't living in Berlin, nobody here would ever look around when something like this happens :blobcatgiggle:

Max™

@stux it makes me anxious seeing nobody with a mask on, wonder if that will ever go away

Mx Verda

@maxthyme @stux same. I'm just walking around like the Hulk the past few years, barely simmering rage when people assert I wear a mask because of 'anxiety'. No, I get nightmares and panic attacks because of anxiety.
I wear a mask because long covid stole a year of my gd life and I don't wish that on anyone.

@stux Just when you're ready to give up on humanity, they come at you with extraordinary human talent and beauty!

Carolyn

@stux They should do this more in airports.

@CStamp @stux

I passed through Wellington airport in a terrible rush and there was a choir performing "How Far I'll Go" with a portable stereo for backing. Choirmaster but all in street clothes with no signage, so my guess was they were on their way somewhere and just decided to give the travelers a free show

Hedgewizard 🐈

@CStamp @stux

I forgot the important bit! Which was how inexplicably happy it made me, a fifty-something-year-old who has only time to listen for maybe sixty seconds

@stux I live for music, but who organised this and why? It's imported from instagram or youtube or whatever. Are we being manipulated here too?

draeath

@AvonVilla @stux I've seen clips of this sort of thing happening in various streets/squares all over too - it's a thing I wish would happen more.

Jon F :anarchist_flag: & ☮️

@draeath @stux I wish people would make and enjoy music in surprising and delightful ways too, I just get this uncomfortable feeling that the whole thing is manufactured by the airline industry or the Indianapolis Tourist Board or something like that, and it feels sneaky and exploitative, rather than spontaneous and joyous.

Anthropy :verified_dragon:

@stux if anyone's wondering: this is Shostokovich's Suite for Jazz orchestra No. 2, Op. 50b, No 2, Waltz

Kierkegaanks regretfully

@stux i want someone to edit in the masquerade orgy from eyes wide shut (that waltz number 2 is featured in)

GJ Groothedde 🇪🇺

@stux But I was looking forward to the epic tuba solo. 😅

Molly Cantrell-Kringle 🧑🏻‍🎄

@stux I not only love the impromptu concert, but it’s also wonderful to see how different people react. You’ve got the dancing couple, the Plaid Dude strumming his fingers on the table…

R. L.

@stux Wish we could have heard the entire thing..

DerangedCrone

@stux Also familiar from “Bad Santa”. Gorgeous waltz.

mausmalone

@stux One of these days I hope I'm lucky enough to get caught by an orchestra flash mob. It seems like it'd be a really cool experience.

Dexter

@stux the tuba applied appropriately can be a beautiful and mournful instrument

I understand

@stux

It's good to see talented flash mobs making a comeback.

rufo

@stux @GeekSusie The alt text says it’s a mall, but it’s Indianapolis Airport.

Nate Bartram

@stux Thanks to this video, I have discovered Dmitri Shastakovich and I couldn't be happier. Thanks for posting this and to the person who named the song (who I can't respond to cause it hasn't federated with my instance sadly).

Woozle Hypertwin

@stux I just want to know where all these public spaces are where you can just find a nice new piano to sit down at and play. (I've seen several other videos like this...)

(Also, nobody seems to be masking -- when was this recorded?)

Coyoty

@stux It reminded me of the intro music to the series "Good Omens", and I had to verify they weren't the same. Very similar, though, both being waltzes.

Ralph Johnston

@stux Kind of surreal - the piano player / organizer is my nephew. He puts on these kinds of performances fairly regularly around Indiana University in Bloomington.

@stux
Andre Rieu Does a great version of this

Arto

@stux
So cool. And a nice melody (what ever it is)

Sascha Raubal

@stux
I *love* these music flashmobs. Such a great idea.

Mans R

@stux Obviously carefully planned. I wish they'd stop pretending otherwise when posting videos like this. Still a nice thing to do.

Sakura :02hai:

@stux@mstdn.social A bit sad in my opinion that it was on an airport. I would find it nice for maybe homeless people (I know there are some musicians who did that).

Still very well made :bocchi_ryo_thumbs_up:
