The scammer is acting as a middleman between the bank (by pretending to be you) and you (by pretending to be the bank). The scammer initiates a transaction at the bank, and then convinces you to verify the transaction remotely.

Not all banks will verify transactions exactly like this in the app, but it’s irrelevant to the scam. It works the same way if your bank sends a two-factor auth code via text, for instance.
