I would not pretend things have not changed. They have.
I also would. not like to pretend that every single private enterprise I've seen within, was more dysfunctional than academic and other public institutions.
Private enterprises seem to attract "talent", that shows it is talented, as a big ball of fire. Anyone incompatible with the fire... burns.
That is necesarrily frowned upon by public servants and members of academia; who while not perfect, are trying very hard.
@lewiscowles1986 @ChrisMayLA6 Public sector bodies are *punished* for innovation, because there is an ideological belief that the public sector is, and must be, inefficient and backwards. Which becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, and is enthusiastically enforced by ministers committed to privatization.
For instance, when local councils had a recruitment problem for some specialist expertise, they offered a 4 day week. It worked, and saved them a load of money.
Cue government ministers threatening to ban it.
