@thenewoil The ban only applies to hosted or custodial wallets offered by 3rd-party providers, like centralized exchanges. But:
MEP Patrick Breyer (Pirate Party of Germany), one of only 2 members who voted against, argues that the legislation compromises economic independence and financial privacy. He claims that the ability to transact anonymously is a fundamental right and believes that the ban would have minimal effects on crime, but would deprive innocent citizens of their financial freedom
@thenewoil Important to remember, the EU has banned #CASH for purchases above a certain amount too, making centrally controlled banks and financial #surveillance the norm.
But it only ties law abiding citizens to this fate. Anyone who's willing to just... Ignore the laws, or #selfhost their own wallet, isn't affected. That's the stupidest thing.
IT PRIVILEGES #BANKS WITHOUT STOPPING ANY #CRIME. All caps is necessary to highlight how this is BLATANT INFRINGEMENT ON THE HUMAN RIGHT TO #PRIVACY
