It would seem appropriate to just move to data/drive to another device that the owner would effectively purchase from you and salvage any left-over internals. Nothing else would seem sensible to do and I'm not sure what else would actually help the owner. There's even a missing key cap.

Maybe he mailed this on the first of April?
