@vidister @vidister Garg announced https://mastodon.social/@Gargron/112118260677357857 not even a week ago > We've updated the rules of our flagship server mastodon.social today. Most are the same with some clarifications, but one rule is new: Content created by others must be attributed, and use of AI must be disclosed. Profiles that only post AI-generated content will not be tolerated. @vidister in a way they boost the original posts or at the very least credit the original post (not just poster): yes please, perfect way to discover cool beings @vidister I wish it would be more common to have those silenced as instance policy. I already blocked a bunch of meme reposting accounts which are "nonpolitical" and void of any information about the person behind. @vidister idk, is there really any ownership over this? it's just a fedi post. as far as I'm concerned, if I'm gonna call for the abolition of intellectual property as a whole, then "stealing a post" can't really exist as a concept. @avrin Abolishing Intellectual Property isn't the same as abolishing attribution. @Mabande this is a fair argument actually and I should have considered that, I do, however, still see things as less serious when talking about fedi posts. @vidister even with attribution, these accounts that just repost other people's content irritate me. unfortunately it's probably not possible to crack down on them without causing too much collateral damage, like banning people for posting the occasional meme or cool photo they found elsewhere. i do find it strange that people here hate twitter so much and yet continue to boost content that was obviously farmed from someone else's twitter account |
I'm not mad, it's not like I put a lot of original creative work into the toot.
But this leads to a broader topic. I think we should discuss how we feel about these content farming accounts, that thrive from the uncredited content of other people, for the sole purpose of gaining followers and selling merch. Do we really want that in the fediverse?
