I'm a sucker for weird and esoteric tags, like these word squares someone has been writing in our neighborhood lately. Each square is a type of acrostic that can be read horizontally or vertically. For example:

T R U S T
R A N C H
U N D E R
S C E N E
T H R E E

@docpop there's a mobile game called word(square) that is all about unscrambling puzzles to read like these

The Corodon

@docpop
I saw a Sator square sticker in Philadelphia once--should have taken a picture. It's cool to see people are still doing this 2,000 years later.

Petra, softness element cutie

@docpop ooh

There's an ancient Roman word square like that from Pompeii that goes

ROMA
OLIM
MILO
AMOR

Riff

@docpop
There is the "sator arepo tenet opera rotas" form that seems quite common under ancient Rome, too :)

@docpop These are entertaining! There is a TAROT one, and I've seen others in esoteric magic books. Too fun.

@docpop My first thought was that this was some kind of graffiti world game.

Magitism

@docpop Turns out trying to create these makes chatGPT go batshit.

P A N E
A R E A
N E A R
E A R N

Then much later:

F L A R E
L A M E R
A M E B A
R E B U S
E R A S E

@docpop Fun!

Some 20 years ago I wrote a program to generate all horizontal and vertical magic squares for a given word.

It didn't look for backward readings, because it limited the amount of combinations too much...

@docpop In a similar vein I like Watsky's three albums Complaint, Placement and Intention.

@docpop You reminded me of an old #TongueTwister If you stick a stick across a stick Or stick a cross across a stick Or cross a stick across a stick Or stick a cross across a cross Or cross a cross across a stick Or cross a cross across a cross Or stick a cross stick across a stick Or stick a crossed stick across a crossed stick Or cross a crossed stick across a cross Or cross a crossed stick across a stick Or cross a crossed stick across a crossed stick Would that be an #Acrostic April 24 1891

@docpop I appreciate when street artists draw mathematically correct graffiti

@docpop nice. SF has a lot of puzzle folks and a history of many great puzzle hunts and games held throughout the Bay Area. I would've loved to encounter these when I last visited.

@docpop weird way to store your seed words for your bitcoin wallet

@docpop interesting, the heart-trend square is on wikipedia, but the rest are not. I wonder if the tagger came up with them on their own.
Did you find the sator-rotas square yet? It would fit on a building wall.

I spotted a few more "Magic Acrostic Squares" by Sapien (aka Sape). #SFGraffiti
