For my birthday, I got this rolling pin with fanciful cats embedded in it. The idea is that as the last roll before cutting out the cookies, you use this thing to make patterns.

It's kind of worked; it was hard to press the right amount to get a pattern to happen but not so much that the dough stuck in the holes.
