Discord is a cancer, bruh.

Someone asked a question on #Github Discussions and someone else closed the discussion saying "(...) Questions can be asked through Discord 👍🏻".

For the love of god, stop using #Discord as a forum. The questions are undiscoverable.

@CleoMenezesJr Not like people would have searched outside of Discord (or even inside the Discord history anyway).

@mateusrodcosta To be honest, who in their right mind, when they want to know about something, uses Discord as a search engine? I mean, first you have to guess that the information you are looking for will be in X Discord server.

@CleoMenezesJr

Imagine directing people to Discord, of all fora, during the height of the Great Enshittification.

@CleoMenezesJr I refuse to join Discord for answering my question. I can live without knowing what is the answer.

Cleo Menezes Jr. :verified:

@mnls Exactly!! It's like the time when to download something you had to enter your email to receive it through it.

@BoredomFestival I didn't want to be so controversial, but since you said it, I can only agree. 😆

Unlogic

@CleoMenezesJr I see it the same as saying “please ask your questions on IRC.”

@CleoMenezesJr I've always hated trying to search for old answers to the question I'm having but I just realized why it's especially bad: extraneous conversation, but moreso: no ability to search for _topics_ instead of posts, in relative terms. It's such a quagmire to filter through. SOMETIMES I find an answer, but most of the time, I do not.

@CleoMenezesJr I have also seen computer games where the bug reports are apparently done via Discord.

It’s not the method I’d like to use to report a bug, but especially not one I’d want to read for bug reports. I hope they have even a Jira where they enter the tickets.

Cleo Menezes Jr. :verified:

@pare I was using a launcher for Android and saw that the bug report was happening through Discord too. This discouraged me so much that I stopped using it.

@kranzkrone @IzzyOnDroid Good idea, my bug report from now on, will be a group on WhatsApp. 🤣️

@CleoMenezesJr in the long run, if your question wasn’t answered in a searchable, discoverable, archived manner, it wasn't answered at all.

And it will be asked again, and again, and again ... it is to the benefit of *everyone* involved (especially those with limited time and attention to provide answers!) that questions be answered in a way that encourages searching for answers first.

@CleoMenezesJr @codinghorror this is also my problem with Slack (Searchable Log of All Conversation and Knowledge)
— you have to know what you're looking for before you can find it. Totally backwards. 🫥

@CleoMenezesJr For the love of god, stop using Microsoft GitHub for any open Source Project. Better use free and open source platforms like #Codeberg #Forgejo

@CleoMenezesJr

Apparently the cool people hate Github now.

Cleo Menezes Jr. :verified:

@rastilin Hate github but embrace discord doesn't seems a game chance. Hahaa

@CleoMenezesJr

I was shocked too. But apparently being owned by Microsoft means github is automatically evil.

@CleoMenezesJr I don't see how this in any way Discord fault. But maybe I'm missing something? Is there like a marketing campaign or incentive or something?
