Sure, transparent screens are the staple of sci-fi designs, but in real life, why? What’s the idea? Why would I want to see something behind the thing I actually want to see?

@nikitonsky Overhead Displays can be useful to augment information in sight, e.g. in cars while driving…

@nikitonsky Never got why people wanted transparent windows so they can see crap on their desktop other windows either. Heck, even the translucent menu bar on macOS was already too much for me.

@nikitonsky
Makes no sense, the same for foldable smartphones.

@SFAutor I actually like the idea of a foldable smartphone, so you can throw it wherever, put it next to metal keys etc and not worry about scratching the screen

BUT they had to put another screen outside 🤦

@nikitonsky with electrochromic glass on both sides, it could be a neat feature to use the same matrix as the inside and outside monitor when the laptop is open/closed

@nikitonsky Depends on the hardware. I like LG's approach on transparent TV screens, because I hate that big black square on the wall. For laptops, I can't think of a practical use-case.

Это не настоящий продукт, это демонстрация технологий. Возможно, подготовка к межзвёздным космическим кораблям, в которых обязательно должна быть светящаяся прозрачная карта галактики или её части.

@nikitonsky I think they make the most sense over a mirror.

@nikitonsky Its a TV trope! You want actors to have F2F conversations in SciFi scene without the inconvenience of peeping around monitors.

@nikitonsky Transparent screens rock when they are TV's which you don't see when they are switched off!

@doekman I’d buy this idea if the moment you turn it on it becomes 100% opaque
