@chad Also, let's not ignore the part where we do things for other people just because we think they matter, not because there's something in it for ourselves.

@chad

I dunno, bruv, whilst I've read the rest of the fucking poem, I spoke out because it was shitty for the transgender community.

Seems a good enough reason to me to speak out, to be brutally honest, not just because if I don't, they'll come for me.

@chad If you've ever wondered what you would have done during the civil rights or women's suffrage or abolitionist movements, it's whatever you're doing now for trans rights. Unfortunately for most people that appears to be simply shrugging and moving on.

@chad …and because I also know that “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” George Santayana

@chad Agreement on suppressing women, non-whites, & non-cis people isn't enough to prevent religious sectarian violence in the US. Teach the history of Euro religious wars.

Name a right trans people don't already have.

Note that “allowed to cheat at sports,” “sterilize the kids,” “all the hormones and surgeries I demand,” “the prison of my choice,” and “million dollar endorsement deals” are not actual human rights.

Freedom from ridicule is not a human right. Flattery and silencing of negative attention are not a human right.

Suppression of contrary voices is not a human right. A field of eggshells around you at all times is not a human right.

Privilege over others is not a human right.

@chad I'll note that I also understand that some people are grievously unhappy before transitioning and much better after, and that alone is enough to say "let them do their thing, anything else is pointless cruelty".

@chad reminds me of the Emo Philips bit, about the jumper he tried to talk down from the bridge.

What a fucking egoistic white man's take of Martin Niemöller's poem!

White men have lost their humanity in the midst of all their power that stems from all the -Isms they've created and are upholding to make sure the power of CIS, straight, able bodied, 'healthy', rich, Christian, white men over the rest of humankind will always stay.
Some of the Colonizer will half assed speak out even for the oppressed though, BECAUSE they're afraid that in the end their own -Isms might hit them too
