amazon has a consistent track record of trying to replace people that cost anything at all with either minimum wage or automation that sucks. it "helps" that customer satisfaction is not even a concern for them.
target tried "find this item" scanners in stores, not sure where else they've tried to replace humans.
"no cashiers/scan your own" is finally proving to be a customer relations failure and doesn't "fix" the supposed theft problem; some studies suggest it makes it worse.
capitalism loves the ideas of AI and robots, since those don't have the same legal protections humans do.
