This area has been mined for zinc, lead, copper and silver since the Bronze Age, with production finally stopping in the 1950s.
It's a haunting place today.
Hard to imagine the bustle of activity that once would have existed here, but there are echoes of the past everywhere.
Working in this bleak spot would have been hard and dangerous.
Average life expectancy for miners here during the mine's heyday was just 32 years old due to the prevalence of chronic lead poisoning.
Water from the streams cascading down the valley side was used to process the ore and the river in the valley below was poisoned with toxic run-off.
It's now recovered but even today, little grows in the hills above.
