A few weeks ago we ran a poll asking your opinions about bots & spam on the Fediverse. A 38% majority said that some features help combat bots, but it's not enough. When we saw our process automatically deflect the bots in the Spam Wave, we knew we could help. That's why we're working with other instances to build a set of tools for admins and moderators. If you're an admin or instance owner, feel free to get in touch! Just because "everyone else does it" doesn't mean you should "hop on the bandwagon" and engage in data collection from your instance, including email addresses to spam instance owners without opt-out links, and ultimately using that data to engage in data collection research studies without consent. In my opinion, this type of behavior should be strictly double opt-in for the sake of end-user consent, just like unsolicited email. Not allowing to opt-out is, again, unsavory at best. |

As a “low level” user I wish I could block all bots permanently. Bots do not add value to my fediverse experience.
