This section positively SCREAMED out at me:
"Because EVs require far less labor time than ICE vehicles, corporate management plans to carry out this transition by slashing hundreds of thousands of jobs in the US and Canada and millions of jobs worldwide.
Former Ford CEO Jim Hackett said in 2017 that “electric vehicles will mean auto factories can have a final assembly area that is half the size, requires half the capital investment and 30 percent fewer labor hours per car.”
If this is true, WHY ARE EVs so expensive currently?? I know EV prices are projected to reach ICE parity relatively soon, but if the above is true, the savings in labour expenses surely would have already made up for the extra expense of the battery?
There's also issues in future of course in regards to labour, in that EVs generally need far less maintenance than ICE vehicles, but I'm one of those wacky #UBI people that think everyone should be working less anyway, as long as the benefits of improved productivity are spread across society, not just the wealthy owners of capital.
