I'm admin and moderator of ilja.space, cyborg, and general waste of space. I'm trying to fix the latter by trying to contribute to the world of free software. Floss projects that currently interest me the most are Pleroma, YUNoHost and Ubuntu Touch.

Trans rights are human rights :trans_flag: :agender_flag: queer rights are human rights :rainbow_flag: :lesbian_lipstick_flag: And it's sad that over half a century after the Stonewall uprising, we still have to remember people of that.
Thank you for your email and interest in our product and services, my Fediverse related consultancy fee is 10.000 10grans for each started hour.
If this is acceptable to you, please do forward the details so I can make up a contract.
I understand the conversation will be OTR. As a first word of advise (by reading further you agree with the consultancy fee as described in the first paragraph of this email, and understand that you, or the legal entity you represent, will be billed for this advise accordingly), I propose to use OMEMO instead of OTR. OMEMO has better user experience, and, due to it's use of double ratchet, has better confidentiality.
Kind regards,
ilja

It's super basic and I'm not sure if or how much I'll work on it, but I think it can already be useful for someone who wants to add something like this.
Happy hacking!
A while ago I posted about how it should be possible to have some basic activity pub support in a static blog.
You can join matrix rooms with xmpp using a bridge that matrix.org hosts. I'm pretty sure the software is Bifrost, but I believe hosting it implies also hosting a matrix server, which I don't want to do.
But there's a bug that doesn't allow you to join a room if it has capital letters in the name, lol. Luckily you can give a room an alias in Matrix (join it using Element and there you can find the option somewhere, anyone can do it, no need to be admin or smthng), so just do that and use an all-lowercase name.
Another fun thing; I wanted to change my display name from the xmpp side, but didn't found how to do that in Dino. Turns out you can say you want to join a room and then just say the same room again, but give the new display name :blobfox3c: It feels a bit like a work-around, but hey, if it works it works.
Only thing I'm unsure now is if I'll still get messages when I close my client. Time will tell. If I do, I'll have all my current chat needs on xmpp :blobfoxdealwithitfingerguns:

Btw, I'm sure people are wondering how things in Pleroma are going.
We currently have about 6 people actively trying to get Pleroma back on track and going and we're talking releases again.
One reason why a release is taking so long is because, while Newroma reverted some of the problematic code, we decided that we couldn't do that for Pleroma. Instead we decided to fix things up. Of course, this takes time, and as you have probably seen, is not always easy for non-technical reasons. But we're doing our best.
On one of the issues about quote posts Mike Macgirvin shared the insight that quote posts can already be done in AP without extentions. "We have attachments. Set the attachment mediaType to an ActivityStreams media type and let clients decide whether or not or how to format and display it."
I really like this idea honestly and I'm seriously considering trying this out.
I'm not really sure, but I guess it could look something like
But if I understand correctly, they already do this for Zap, so I should first check if and how they do it there.

I'm watching the podcast and they are discussing what terminology to use to talk to people about the fediverse in a way that's not confusing. But I don't really see terminology as a problem honestly
pleroma => software which runs a social network platform
I don't think I ever had any one being confused about that. Sure, they may not really see a difference in their mind between "social network platform" and "social network" at first, but that's the beauty of it, it's not confusing. And the moment they realise there's a difference, they seem to quickly understand that. You don't have to suddenly start explaining how this single thing you were talking about is actually 3 different things.

Some random quick tips: -You don't need to shorten your posts or make threads while micro blogging. Most fedi software allow for 1000s of characters per post. -Input an url with special characters as HTML or markdown to make sure special characters are also turned into part of the link. E.g. with markdown: <http://some.tld/this-is-it!> |-> http://some.tld/this-is-it! -Some software allow for finer theming than others. You don't have to limit yourself to only light and dark theme. -Remember, you're not a user of the fediverse, you're part of it. You have impact, you are valid, let's make the best of it together! #feditips
