is y combinator just straightforwardly bullshit now? like not even the luster of having a user benefit like some of their stuff did ten years ago, just a bunch of AI code editors and stuff i’m gonna take so many shots if bowen plays a Moo Deng character in weekend update. i feel it in my bones no bc spending $20 each on two movie tickets and $30 on the AMC combo of two drinks and a popcorn to share is highway robbery. seventy. american. dollars. on. a. movie date. X blocks links to hacked JD Vance dossier — and suspends the journalist who published it. https://www.theverge.com/2024/9/26/24255298/elon-musk-x-blocks-jd-vance-dossier I keep getting a scary alert in the new macOS that the window server has access to see my screen. I should hope that it can see my screen?? I googled it to see if it's real and it's so real that Apple even still has a support page with its specs 🤯 @samhenrigold Hate to break it to you, buddy, but: https://mstdn.io/@sohkamyung/101289555782329210 New England Bucket List Inspo 😍🍂🍎 These threads are some of my favorite writing we’ve put out as a company and they’ve been spearheaded entirely by our senior designer @samhenrigold. If you’re not already following him, you should be. And then you should hire us to have him redesign your app. 🧵📐 Let’s talk about optical centering and visual balance in UI design. This post has been making the rounds about iOS 18’s flashlight Live Activity, and it’s probably time we have The Talk. About precision vs perception in interface design, that is. Some users have pointed out that the flashlight icon in the Live Activity isn’t mathematically centered. At first glance, this might seem like an oversight. But this is a deliberate choice, rooted in centuries-old design principles. 🔥 DESIGN THREAD, HOT OFF THE PRESSES. It’s got everything. Discourse™, diagrams of the Parthenon, font rendering techniques. What more could you want in a thread

@samhenrigold wow can you even connect such a system to the internet? (without risk I mean) working on a @lickability design thread right now. the context of this doesn't matter but here's a gif I had to make comparing font rendering technologies on Windows Vista. I know you've been on the edge of your seat for this, you're welcome

I've been using macOS as my primary OS since 2012, but I somehow still prefer Windows font rendering john mulaney was at the salesforce conference and the transcript of him reading the attendees to filth is so cathartic https://sfstandard.com/2024/09/19/comedian-john-mulaney-brutally-roasts-sf-techies-and-ai-at-dreamforce/

@samhenrigold Please, there MUST be a video of this speech on the web. Surely. (It's certainly not on Salesforce's YouTube channel, they've been dead silent for the past 3 days) I got the new Apple Watch last week and the new display really does make a difference for standby mode. The LTPO screen refreshes every second, so now it always shows the second hand. And the wider viewing angle makes glancing at it easier when it’s at a weird angle on your wrist. It feels more like a proper watch.

@samhenrigold the second hand is the thing I’m most jealous about. Long overdue but glad to see it @samhenrigold I know that it's thinner than before, but do you think it's noticeably thinner? @samhenrigold Except the watchOS team is terrible with remembering old watch faces exist so only Reflections and Flux show the second hand in always-on mode 🥲 i love being talked down to because of my country of origin

It's been happening to me for the last 2.5 years so much I almost got used to it. The iPhone battery thing is very cool though. I'm still traumatized by my experience of replacing the battery in my first-gen pixel and breaking the screen in the process of opening it. That thing was really not designed to come apart at all. @samhenrigold ditto oat milk and peanut butter. the oat and the nut are already sweet enough. and heck maybe even ketchup. giant missed opportunity to make a Windows version and call it Windows on Windows 2 https://www.theverge.com/2024/9/19/24249087/microsoft-windows-app-ios-ipados-macos-web-general-availability @samhenrigold I was immediately confused when this was in my so it was promptly removed hah |
just one more ai code editor bro, just one more and we will solve all programming and software problems bro just give me a billion dollars i swear
@samhenrigold I think we'd have to see a huge consumer app come into existence without YC to know for sure. If you view YC as a vehicle to get VC investment they're fine
