I just deleted my Twitter account.
I saw a viral pro-H*tler tweet on my timeline with 66,000 likes and 9.5 million views. That was enough for me to ensure my posts don’t contribute any value to that garbage dump.
I just deleted my Twitter account. I saw a viral pro-H*tler tweet on my timeline with 66,000 likes and 9.5 million views. That was enough for me to ensure my posts don’t contribute any value to that garbage dump. So I made a macOS thing. It's a fidget spinner, but with a twist. Made possible thanks to @samhenrigold posting about his own experiments with these private APIs.

@grishka @samhenrigold This is so cool! I didn't even realize this was possible until now lol Some Threads users complain their accounts are being deleted or restricted for linking to articles with controversial topics.

@w7voa What Umar writes about is the norm. Certainly was when I used Meta (Facebook till 2017, Instagram till 2019). Giving them ID may or may not work. Paying them money for an ad campaign: that suddenly helps open doors to a human in support. I bet my girlfriend that this picture of our cats could get 10 billion boosts on Mastodon. She said she doesn't believe me. She said there's only 15 million accounts on Mastodon. She said there aren't even 10 billion people on Earth. She said it concerns her that I struggle to comprehend large numbers. Let's prove her wrong everyone. Boost away and show her just how awesome the Mastodon community is.

@lowqualityfacts … Those appear to be cats. You should post pictures of dogs or perhaps echidnas, to get cat pic boosts. @lowqualityfacts She's forgetting that cats can have accounts too. Low quality fact: The number of people + number of cats + other random species that are cat fans is greater than 10 billion. 8 rolls developed and 4 scanned as of tonight. So far these pictures from Kinderdijk are my favorites. Ilford HP5+ I’ve already learned that I need to work on intentionally spot metering (unsure if that is the right term), and that the monobath does *not* play nice with Kodak TMax 100. D-76 gets here tomorrow. Mastodon switches things up to make its app a little easier to use https://www.theverge.com/2024/10/8/24265201/mastodon-4-3-update-grouped-notifications-design-discover-carousel Please enjoy this kitten who was visiting us today (no, actually visiting, this one has a human already).

@scalzi "WHAT THE HELL'S THAT?" Don't worry, kitten, that's just Scalzi. You get used to it after a while. I wrote up a quick post on how to setup the Mastodon author stuff https://rknight.me/blog/setting-up-mastodon-author-tags/

@TechConnectify it's a great video, and i completely agree on the uselessness of the feature. But did you really use one time batteries in a walkman? I thought that was the moment to get rechargeables for everyone @TechConnectify I also recall them trying this concept a few times, at least in some stores you could get a more modern version. @TechConnectify actually I found that you can still buy them brand new. here is an example from Amazon https://www.amazon.ca/Duracell-Ultra-Advanced-Battery-Power/dp/B0036QSKP2 “It’s a pic of a cat sitting in a box. But will mastodon like it?” “It’s mastodon!” “Good point” @ellavescent WITH a shelf of Terry Pratchett in the background. This might break the internet... No matter the size and no matter the breed... Even the Big Cat species. When a box is around... If I fits... I sits... How to out compete any major tech vendor right now: work in the same space as their core products - but just don't put anything AI in the product. They're all so distracting tickling their own bollocks with AI right now they've completely lost focus on their core products and real customer needs. Just passed 1,000 posts here on Mastodon. Hey, thank you all for being here and putting up with me occasionally. I have fun here, and appreciate that this service exists in the world.

@scalzi Love seeing you here AND BlueSky, don't forget about us Masto folks! @scalzi It’s like Mastodon was made for the likes of you: a fun, wacky place in which velvet paintings of Wil Wheaton would be celebrated. Flipboard.social is now running the latest Mastodon 4.3 release. @Gargron and team have taken the experience to a whole new level of usefulness, usability and control. I especially like that journalists can now link their articles directly to their fediverse profile. As X continues to disdain journalists, Mastodon is helping to support their work. Check out all the details here: Thank you! It's wonderful, magnificent. Bloggers / newsletter writers take note: in the new Mastodon 4.3 release, if you go to settings > verification, you can now turn on "Author attribution". So when someone posts a link to Cybercultural, I think they now see my Mastodon profile alongside the link. Very cool. https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2024/10/mastodon-4.3/ X rival Mastodon rolls out revamped notifications, a refreshed look and more https://tcrn.ch/3YhKNPn #Mastodon 4.3 is out! 🎉 We've made notifications easier to manage and improved the look and feel of the whole app across the board. And that's just the tip of the iceberg! See what you can expect once your server upgrades:

@Mastodon Mastodon has been working poorly since the last update. Video isn't working. Today it has been down for at least 10 hours. It won't load. @Mastodon Hey there. I have a custom background on my server and ever since this update, all of my posts are transparent. So none of the text is readable. I haven't been able to get help anywhere. Would you be able to tell me how to make the background of my posts white as it was before? I would be very grateful. Case in point: there's no way to build a backdoor that only the "good guys" can use. When the entire technical community says that the EU's ChatControl legislation + similar pose serious cybersecurity threats, we're not exaggerating for effect.

@Mer__edith So clearly the answer is to use AI to encrypt it, then put it on the blockchain, and store a secret in an NFT that is then stored in a smart contract which is then stored in an offline (cold) wallet available only to the good guys. Sounds reasonable, right?

@anildash Somewhere inside Meta: Product Owner: “Yeahhhh, so we apparently made it impossible to find people named Molly.” Tech Lead: “I TOLD YOU!!!” @anildash @molly0xfff If your truth habit is affecting your life or the life of your family, help is available at Truph Social, where we can help you break the habit. @Gargron Didn’t realize you were a KX person! First camera I got when I was 11, will also be my last film camera :) Love the look of that nifty 50 @Gargron I’m new to Mastodon and Pixelfed. I assume you created this post on Pixelfed, right? How did you manage to display it on Mastodon? I understand there is the same protocol under the hood. However, this is what confusing: I can’t see my Pixelfed post on Mastodon and I can’t see my comment to this post (from Mastodon) on Pixelfed. I thought they all be synced. I Always wanted to find a replacement for instagram, this is a good chance. Thank you. |
@carnage4life @mastodonmigration I wish I could be surprised by something like that anymore. 😮💨 I know the Fediverse isn’t exactly immune to hate groups, but at least we have ways to do something about it before it grows and festers and poisons everything around it.
@carnage4life the direction of travel was clear from the get go… not sure how to feel about the people that remain there.
@carnage4life
Congrats on your act of self care.
