@lapcatsoftware @DavidBlue I've noticed similar issues. It seems there are currently serious problems with Safari extensions. actually seeing them like this really warmed my heart to a degree far hotter than usually expected looking at symbols on a web page lol. https://icons.wedistribute.org https://wedistribute.org/2024/08/decentralized-social-icons/ Imagine the decentralized social media future we all want has arrived, at scale, and it has won over the closed platforms and made them unimportant. How does this actually look like in practice? Answering this question was the subject of a session we ran at #DWebCamp. Here are he notes what people came up with. https://reb00ted.org/tech/20240809-dwebcamp-future-open-social/ Curious: when companies run two-factor authentication systems with hardware tokens or authenticator apps on the client, how does the backend look like? How is it typically secured? Since January, @kissane and I have been researching governance on Mastodon and Hometown servers of about 80-2000 people. That research is now available!!! ...and disable basic browser navigation with half-assed javascript intercepting the user's clicks, then blame the end user for being backwards when the end user complains about this. @urlyman @jwildeboer while in the mean time consuming an inordinate amount of resources on your local computer… And what he hell is with this new floating info panel that now always obscures the photo?? And all that UI chrome? Why??? The "new" top navbar is also completely baffling. You've got big wide space and thumbs on the sides, so Apple decides to move the navigation to the top where it's always awkward to reach. Where it would make sense - portrait orientation - it's not available. What the fuck are they smoking? Some apps allow you to switch between sidebar and top bar, some don't, in some it's customizable, in most it's not. This is probably a beta thing but overall again, the design is completely baffling. |
