@liaizon @d0n I am in two minds about this. I see the potential and I like the idea that I can publish to Flickr and have it publish that photo out to the Fediverse. However, my text based ramblings are relatively curated. I don't dump an entire memory card of photos out onto Mastodon in one go. Flickr often has people who literally do that... thousands of photos uploaded in one go with no curation. these jokes are doing numbers on twitter but the funny thing is they show off something true. the added complexity of federation brings as much added depth to the types of experiences you are able to have here. in this map shown thousands of areas of europe, and all these areas have different cultures and norms and associations, and are able to have some level of autonomy in figuring out how to enforce those within their own boundaries ...and @ash wins the award for most customized #fediverse instance I have ever seen. and its running the wonderful #MicroBlogPub software There is a major usability regression in Mastodon 4: you can no longer access the link to a profile from the profile card on Mastodon Web without going into the kebob menu (the vertical ...) and clicking "Open original page" The issue is being discussed here: [The Man Behind Mastodon Built It for This Moment]

@liaizon @Gargron @willknight and best part is that there's nobody to save you from the bigoted racist chuds calling you a niggerfaggot here
There's no "healthy" debate, literally every mastodon instance defederates everyone with opposing viewpoints. I guarantee you aren't an actual anarchist, you're a far left progressive who will report and then defederate me simply for questioning your fake and gay narrative.
@liaizon Nothing against @Gargron here, but @willknight writing this story from the angle of "one man with his bare hands", David's hero journey against Goliath, is a pretty reductive and probably mostly incorrect story of Mastodon. Eugen is a key actor, no doubt, and deserves a lot of credit. But this article misses the point if it wanted to talk about the success of Mastodon. Profile of @Gargron in Time Magazine today! [Thousands Have Joined Mastodon Since Twitter Changed Hands. Its Founder Has a Vision for Democratizing Social Media] #mastodon's official patreon just reached $12k a month! so for new people who want to #contribute financially: your local servers can always use help, and other software that makes up the #fediverse almost always accept donations! the #fediverse / #mastodon is on the front page of CNN right now this influx might be bigger then we realized... [But Mastodon scratches a certain itch. The service has a similar look to Twitter, with a timeline of short updates sorted chronologically rather than algorithmically. It lets users join a slew of different servers run by various groups and individuals, rather than one central platform controlled by a single company like Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook.] I dont believe in electoral democracy I think its super flawed but this is worth celebrating. Bolsanaro was a fucking lunatic this is real great! https://fedifinder.glitch.me if you still have a twitter account go put your fediverse handle in your bio over there! the #fediverse instances https://ioc.exchange and https://climatejustice.social are both banned from posting about on twitter. is there any other instances you have seen that are banned? @liaizon in the case of climatejustice dot social, Virus Total lists quite a few detections (source: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/url/626d9959cb7a0745e607af1f1543d4d2d74e2340d8e8da691e5bec56a87417a1/summary ). From the comments, I see someone claim the admin runs an old version of nginx. It might be the case that the server was hacked at some point and used to run phishing campaigns / spread malware. Something that can definitely be fixed! hello and welcome new people! hope your first day on the #fediverse is cozy! I know this place can be confusing sometimes but we are here to help! |
