Good morning fediverse, I just got the pleasure of reading @ifixcoinops new book about the fediverse meta yesterday that is posted in its entirety in a singe post: "My long-term vision for RedReader is to restructure the app to more easily support other sites, including Lemmy" -RedReader RedReader is a Reddit app with over 100k downloads on the Google Play store "I think it would be cool to work with some kind of "open forum protocol" which would allow a variety of websites and apps to interoperate with each other through a uniform API." https://old.reddit.com/r/RedReader/comments/145du4j/update_4_redreader_granted_noncommercial

@liaizon @fediverse oh shit @vantablack, https://fedipact.online was just directly linked by https://daringfireball.net/linked/2023/06/19/not-that-kind-of-open I hope you have it set up on a server that can handle the load cause "getting fireballed" is like an actual term that people use

@liaizon @vantablack i've seen some good discussion on meta joining the fediverse that goes beyond straight up blocking them, but if you frame it like "do we want to be anti-corporate or pro-openness?" you make it really hard for me *not* to smash that defederate button @liaizon @vantablack the other half of this is - Facebook has been around for literally a lifetime. We know what it’s like, and for various reasons, most of us decided we would prefer something else. It’s not exactly some new thing we should give a chance. @nikclayton posted this thread of recent work being done on @Tusky and I really love the format they chose, as well as a shoutout to who did the work in each new feature: I would love to see more work like this in making changelogs accessible to people who are not already immersed in the world of dev. there are some names and faces here I have now been seeing almost everyday for the past 6 years, and we don't "know" eachother but I am comforted by the thought of your continued existence on this planet. I know that if I met most of you in person we would have a fascinating conversation and it would feel like a continuation of something that already took place. this reddit migration into the fediverse sure is at a weird time, things felt very chill here quite recently since the last big migration from twitter died down and now this meta thing is happening and it feels like there are fireworks going off around the fediverse @liaizon And now, fedidb is closing down, apparently. I wonder, what the fuck is going on all of the sudden. @liaizon I feel a bit lost in all this mess. Torn between: this i s great, a lot of ppl will join the fediverse and the fear of losing a moderately safe space to a big corp. The first is from a priviledged users perspective imho, the second from bipoc, queer and other communities at risk as well as developers. can't seem to get any of the search engines to give me results for references to the specific domain name 'threads.net' or 'threads.instagram.com' anyone with better search engine powers have any recommendations for how to search for mentions of a specific domain name? seems google and duckduckgo are not cutting it anymore for this type of search headed to a commune for the week, maybe I can find some focus being away from a city for a bit I am currently in the midst of a large forest in a commune of almost 100 people. I am using the internet here that I just found out is via Starlink (the Musk company) and it is utterly silent and black outside just read peoples takes on the meta meta for the last hour and psyched my adrenaline up. it's sorta incredible to see when one topic takes over my whole feed (I am following 4k accounts here) remembering that this whole thing is so so small still. there are random videos that have more views them then there are accounts in the whole fediverse. our view of this place is unimaginably different then the vast vast majority of anyone looking in from the outside I keep thinking about how early this all is in so many ways. but also how slow moving things are at the same time. what lens do we look through? more time has been spent perfecting the design of an axe then electricity has been used to move data around Just Nodes vs Networked Communities This whole thread about the two main modalities for the future of the fediverse by @lrhodes is really worth reading: What is a Fediverse Galaxy? As more and more instances are providing multiple services under the same management, we need a term to talk about this type of arrangement. A Fediverse Galaxy is a collection of federated software that is provided by the same admin or collective. [posted to the @fediverse Lemmy group]

@liaizon @fediverse I think k Jerry runs a WriteFreely instance too. I was but wasn’t thrilled with it. Although not strictly Fedi, need Matrix on here too. @liaizon @fediverse Actually @jerry is only missing three from your chart, I believe. Mobilizon, Funkwhale and Plume. See also: https://infosec.exchange/@geekgrrl/110529665917357916 lemmyverse > threadiverse > fediverse > metaverse > universe > multiverse > means "is a type of" Hey @matt, I just noticed this question asked by @heartade from January about submitting a Korean translation to #WriteFreely was never answered: https://discuss.write.as/t/cannot-contribute-to-i18n/7828 its my favorite season of fediverse, meta fedi where all we discuss is the latest meta meta @liaizon It's weird but I've seen a pattern where many people are tooting just that. I wonder if the fediverse triggers the emergence of such statements. #MetaMetaMeta |
@liaizon @fediverse That was fast. Those sprung up quickly.
@liaizon @tchambers @fediverse Hundred percent agree we shouldn’t need these work arounds. However, it’s amazing the pace of change and how fast these issues are being resolved. Think about how long some of the issues continue to plague us on various platforms and tools from Apple Microsoft google and others.
