Someone leaked the Instagram Threads.apk Android app

we.tl/t-fW32yvGqdx

I unpacked it and now I am looking though the included files. I don't know too much about the structure of Android apps but there is a ton of insight into what its final form will look like just be exploring the contents...

Instagram has a new brand font and has this intro page about it: about.instagram.com/brand/type

I discovered this from a post by @chrismessina: t2.social/chris/status/75616 and it seems striking that the first character they are showing off is also apparently the logo of their new microblogging app (currently called Theads, P92 or Barcelona)

Seems to me that they might be seriously taking this new text posting first direction after the failure of their metaverse attempt.

DELETED

@liaizon @chrismessina It's nice. I'm not in love with it, but it's clear and has personality, anyway.

Ana Luisa

@liaizon hm thanks for sharing, love to take a look at a font...

Signal.app is making me solve these ridiculous AI riddles every day now to continue using the app

Dante Scanline

@liaizon whoa really? i've never gotten a captcha in signal. is it a third party service??

cryptix

@liaizon never seen those… do you have Signal PIN?

Maike

@liaizon Just saw one of the "this is not going to replace twitter"-celebrities announcing he's back. Don't give a sh*t.

I haven't ever tried to look through a mastodon database dump before, how easy is it to work with? lets say I was an FBI agent looking at the #Kolektiva dump, what sort of things could I do that I couldn't do by just signing up for an account? Looking at any DMs is an obvious one but what are some less obvious things?

Alexander Bochmann

@liaizon For something like the FBI, cross-checking accounts / email addresses with the data they already have is probably valuable? Then you can go from there and explore the network of accounts those are communicating with. Also identifies possible aliases of kolektiva.social users they already know by by their email address.
Also makes it theoretically possible to take over live accounts on kolektiva.social when the password is crackable and 2FA is off (which I would hope isn't the case for one of their admins / mods)?

In general the DB is pretty easy to work with given basic SQL knowledge - there's no overly convoluted interdependencies in there.

Accept purpose.

@liaizon network analysis. Who follows who, who boosts, and faves. It would be hard to scrape all of that without being noticed.
And if anyone was using dms to organize, those are not private to the database.

It doesn't sound like this was a target of the raid. But it will give them a clearer view of the movement than the movement has of itself.

It's great intelligence for finding emergent leadership and good targets for turning into informants.

shadow_absorber

@liaizon would be interesting to get to know this too.... just incase things ever get bad

it would be an interesting exercise to sit down and try to write a list of every tool you have utilized in the past year, I guess first you have to define what a tool is, I was thinking of this as I was washing a pan and using some steel wool to wash the pan

Mama's Pinky Toe

@liaizon
A simpler (and harder) question is what is your favorite tool.

wakest ⁂

a tool is anything that you use to do something that would be harder or more annoying to do without the tool

havent played with any of the new artbreeder tools till now, this is from playing with artbreeder.com/labs/director

A request for help from Mastodon instance admins! Lemmy posts are no longer searchable from Mastodon and the Lemmy devs are looking for why.

"It would be good if an admin of a Mastodon or Hubzilla instance could check the server logs at the time of fetching a Lemmy object, and see what kind of error is being logged. There have been some changes to federation, but I cant think of anything that would cause this type of breakage." - @nutomic

Tagging some masto people here for help, sorry if this is an annoying ask (:

SR.Gray :lk:

@liaizon @nutomic

This may not be as wide a bug as stated.

My lemmy.ca account (and the two lemmy.ca communities that I follow via Mastodon) has still been federating, and they upgraded Lemmy to 0.18.0 a couple days back.

Searching for lemmy.ca also brings up other communities in my search box.

Posts I made there earlier this AM were visible instantly here.

if any fedi devs want to look into this, seems like an important bug to get figured out asap #fediverse #fedidev #mastodev

weird conspiracy shit that might be worth someone looking into:
so I was trying to katch up and understanding who this Yevgeny Prigozhin character is and ended up on The Wall Street Journal’s latest documentary “Shadow Men: Inside Russia’s Secret War Company”
youtube.com/watch?v=EMXnJMCoFY

30secs in, something weird: the opening shot is AI generated, but no where does it say this. You can obviously tell cause the banner that should be static is shifting between different letter forms

@liaizon complete, from-scratch AI video generation is nowhere near this yet. The letters are not shifting between forms but rather slightly different representations of the same forms as happens with AI upscaling. Because for some reason every camera in Russia is worse than a potato

H.O.F.

@liaizon is probably a novel way to blur the faces, but looks really shity

Dante Scanline

@liaizon id guess this is some kinda AI upscaled thing? though then again its reaaaaally weird looking when he turns to face the camera, like is this based on something or fully generated?
