There's no table in my new room. Put my glasses on the floor. Men live like this and see no problem

waffle

@bouncepaw of course they don't see, they took the glasses off!!

Working the job remotely today. I gotta tell you. I like office more!

my #uxn klondike game ("kodiak") is finally working!

git.phial.org/d6/kodiak/

it is very stripped down (no splash screen, no sounds, no animations, no fun) but it's complete enough that i just won my first game!

some small known issues/clunkiness but it should be playable if you want to try it out.

@d6 @neauoire Looks fantastic! So glad to see this moving forward.

Kapunta

@d6 impressive!

there's an issue with the mouse at least on mobile, it seems. when the finger is released, the game thinks that the card is still dragged, so when you tap anew, the card behaves weird

Watched Le Monde's Olympiad opening ceremony recap. Looks pretty fun! I don't think I'll watch the full ceremony though.

Also monsieur Macron sounds like those audio exercises we had at school. Very French, thank you!

Bouncepaw Renting Apartment Chronicles №1

A khrushchovka (commieblock) far from metro. Hard to get to. Not particularly enjoyable inside, not enjoyable at all outside. Expensive. Didn't get it.

Stay tuned for more misadventures.

cathos

@bouncepaw Those look so cool, but I imagine they aren't actually great to live in anymore.

Bouncepaw Renting Apartment Chronicles №2

So, I have a friend who owns two flats in this city. One of them is empty nowadays, and we thought of me renting it. Took a look today, it's good. The price is good too. The location is perfect. The stars tell me to get it.

I just don't really like renting from a friend; it feels wrong. But I guess it's ok?

The flat is on the street that was formerly called #Esperanto street. Junaj samideanoj venu antawen!

Overall, I think my PixelFed experiment was unsuccessful. The approach to posting I chose was not particularly fitting for me, and, well, the UX is lacking. Dansup is working on a new mobile app, I'll give it a try, and if I still don't like it, well, I'll leave.

A decade ago I swapped from shaving with foam and a multi blade to traditional single blade razors and soap. This was one of the best moves I ever made.

I also moved from non stick cook ware to stainless/ carbon steel. This was also one of the best things I did.

I moved from gas to induction. Full on win.

I moved from apps to notebooks. Amazing choice.

Going back to CDs.

The modern world is lying to us about everything.

@jameschip ive been trying to use a safety razor blade handle thingy lately, but im just not any good at it :( takes me 4x as long and a worse shave overall

i havent given up yet tho

Grant

@jameschip I recently upgraded from electric to induction as well, and wow is it a huge improvement. It's one of the "modern" things that actually is better. Much more precise while being more efficient at the same time. Going from gas to induction is an even bigger improvement!

If it was proprietary malware, of course switching to something that isn't designed to entrap you was an improvement.

I've found org-roam superior to easily-lost (and hard to backup) paper notes.

Even if one uses one of the proper notetaking & indexing methodologies, it's just more laborious to do it by hand.

> I also moved from non stick cook ware to stainless/ carbon steel. This was also one of the best things I did.

Nonstick was demonstrated to me as being garbage when I found out I couldn't use proper wok-cooking heats with it. And then I found out the stuff is cancerous on top of that even when it isn't cracked or visibly damaged.

A bit of oil in stainless steel is fine.

> I moved from gas to induction. Full on win.

It's also better than conventional electric, which is what I've had experience with.

So much less annoying to clean, too.

> Going back to CDs.

I prefer DRM-free lossless digital copies. Easier to backup, and easier to carry with oneself should an emergency evacuation be necessary (which with climate change making extreme events more common, looks like an eventual guarantee I'll have to deal with such things).

(And doing high-quality rips by oneself is not quite trivial, when the media is old-enough.)

Anything that can be backed up is preferable, because physical materials are cumbersome and hard to evacuate quickly. 12~16TB (used/refurbished) drives fit in a purse or backpack without issue.

> The modern world is lying to us about everything.

Mostly the corposcum and capitalists. Because of course they do not have your best interest at heart.

Why is it so HARD to find a proper flat to rent? And I haven't even called anybody, just looked at photos on the internet...

@bouncepaw capitalism, being overwhelmed by the amount of information, feeling that decisions will affect you greatly (and for me: executive dysfunction)

@bouncepaw What? You're not content with living in a cardboard box for $2000 a month? Pfff, kids these days.

💭 A static site generator with a dynamic admin panel for hosting large image collections. Somehow local-first?

Neither Mastodon, PixelFed nor even Mycorrhiza are fit for the collections I want to host.

Hmm, it sounds like Fediversed Pinterest, which can be made from Betula if you add image support 😏
