This week in KDE: "Stomping all the bugs!" Skanpage offers a “preview”, Elisa supports controlling its Shuffle and Repeat via the Media Player widget, Gwenview gets an improved interface, and more news.

@kde
Great news. I upgraded my system to Kubuntu 23.04 and it is a great experience. However i wonder why Scanpage is not available in the repos. There is no flatpak or snap either. Skanlite which is installed by default is far to basic for my needs.

KDE Gear ⚙️ 23.04: Service providers may move the goalposts, but KDE devs keep your apps working: It "only" took 22000+ lines of code, and 315 files changed to get #Kalendar, #KOrganizer and #KMail working again with #Google Contacts.

@kde now I'm imagining a future where protonmail bridge lets Kalendar access Proton Calendar... or is that a thing already?

Álvaro Gonzalez

@kde I was considering a migration to Thunderbird, but I prefer korganizer most. Thanks!

Do you work at Microsoft* but also miss a powerful terminal emulator? New in KDE Gear ⚙️ 23.04: Konsole now works on Windows too!

J. Mat B. Wilcoxson 👋

@kde Console on Windows sounds great.

PS, I enjoyed your Windows joke. (So many people didn't seem to get it... but I guess being forced to use Windows anywhere is no joke...)

Mitsunee | 光音

@kde currently beating myself up over not being able to apply to a job where I'd be stuck with microsoft stuff. Would love Konsole there tho, at least something familiar...

Wohao_Gaster :fatyoshi:

@kde having way too many desktops installed on one distro and using Konsole on budgie totally doesn't feel wrong at all

@kde

Thanks, that are a lot of great changes.

I especially like the screen recording functionality in Spectacle and the list view in Filelight.

And I learned about some new apps.

:mastolove:

wraptile

@kde The nested timelines feature for kdenlive is a game changer! People have been waiting for this one as far as I can remember. Excited to give it a shot!

NiceMicro

@kde Filelight is great!
I wonder how does it handle hard links?
I didn't find any documentation on that specific topic.

digiKam 8 has landed 📸! After two years of development and bug stomping, the newest version of KDE's advanced digital photo management app is finally here.

digiKam 8.0 comes loaded with new features, not least of which are a brand new online manual (available at docs.digikam.org/en/index.html), support for more than 10 new RAW formats, a new OCR tool that will help you lift text out of images, and much, much more.

Check out KDE's new #ePub #reading app 📖: Arianna!

Although only at version 1.0.0, Arianna already comes with a progress and navigation bar, full text word search, and is fully navigable with the keyboard. Development is happening fast, so look out for many more features to come📚!

@kde couldn't you have squeezed a K in there, somewhere? 😂

bgtlover

@kde for your information, the application is not accessible enough with screenreaders that one can use it for reading books. First off, if you tab past the list with your books, you get into a dialog, I assume search, out of which you can't get unless you press escape, you can't even tab in it. Then, and that's probably because of flatpak portals being dumb accessibility wise, I can't select an epub file for viewing, because the listing is entirely inaccessible.

@kde @kubuntufocus Great to see a new hardware vendor as a KDE patron, particularly in the US where KDE presence as always been a bit lacking.

@kde @kubuntufocus Wow, those look great and they ship to Canada for free too! (Un)fortunately, KDE makes my 10-year old laptop still work like a charm! Still very tempting though.

@kde Ugh, what a downgrade. The previous forum worked well, meanwhile this Discourse garbage requires tons of JS to work and serves extremely crippled version of the webpage without it. Has anybody even wanted this?

Welcome to KDE's new Mastodon account!🥳

As you may know, mastodon.technology will unfortunately be closing down soon, hence the move. We are very grateful to Ash, the patient maintainer and hard-working admin that kept that instance running for so long. We wish you well, Ash, and hope to continue seeing you around the Fediverse.
