It's still June 27 in my time zone so there's still time for me to post the DJ Screw June 27th freestyle Here’s a cool and exciting community media initiative in Worcester, MA that was fun to report on. For anyone nostalgic for alt-weeklies and video stores, this place is making both work: "Everyone is talking about Retrieval Augmented Generation, but most companies don't actually have any internal documentation worth retrieving. Fix. Your. Shit." God this is good https://ludic.mataroa.blog/blog/i-will-fucking-piledrive-you-if-you-mention-ai-again/

@nileane @TangerineUI Hi! As I’m currently sponsoring you on Github, and since you’re linking your Ko-fi it makes me wonder if you have a preference to where I (or other people) donate? If one is financially (or in network effect) more interesting? @nileane @TangerineUI do you know if anyone was able to make it work with Arc Boosts? I’m on a big instance so it's unrealistic to expect the admins to install Tangerine, but I'd love to give it a try. However it always looked a bit broken when applied through Arc Boosts. you know who eats hot fries? kids! and you know what kids love? a 50s comic strip about a layabout and his wife who hates him! Just wait until they hear about the lack of oxygen https://thehill.com/homenews/space/4723256-radiation-could-pose-challenge-to-putting-people-on-mars/ Not just oxygen, atmosphere in general, the pressure is barely better than vacuum But if we're going to terraform something, Venus is all-around a better choice imo THE THOUGHT he was rung as the sun. you were required of the shell... we must see anyone when following the maid will we receive the pair drawn up the tide? New episode of Into the Depths is up! Come hear me and others talk with the one and only Michael Brough (Cinco Paus, Imbroglio, 868-HACK) about the game Slice & Dice! We go deep (so to speak) on its curses and blessings system, and its origins in 868-HACK and ultimately in player communities. Another POV I like a lot from Robert Gehl, who did a whole blog post: tx @noracodes fo permission to include this, tagging her here instead of above to reduce unintentional reply-bombing @kissane for me it is indeed the lack of linkbacks, the content is presented as being part of that platform, not part of a group of sites sharing a platform Another POV I like a lot from Robert Gehl, who did a whole blog post: It's not completely clear to me how various zones of the Fediverse distinguish "scraping" from "non-Mastodon ActivityPub services functioning according to spec in ways I didn't expect." Given how frequently protocol behaviors act as ethical markers ("if you *can* do it, it's fine") this seems like a fruitful territory to try to map… (I say this as someone who has myself been surprised more than once by AP implementations that put Fedi posts into unfamiliar-to-me contexts, don't eat me.)

@kissane in a discussion last week[1], someone explained a related vibe as "I used to create works, now I produce points in a corpus" and I've been thinking about that a lot as an efficient encapsulation of the current moment. Among other things thoughts, I'm not aware of any protocol, or implementation, or legal supplement to a protocol, that has terminology or other mechanisms to capture that vibe. [1] Maybe it was @CyberneticForests ? I think this formulation matches my own sense of why some things feel weird and others don't, and I'm really interested in pinning down what it is about some implementations that produce that impression. (I think obviously it's more than one thing.) Your scientists were so preoccupied with how much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood, they didn't stop to think how much wood should a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood. some guys at the table next to mine are talking about running an Internet service provider in the 90s and I'm exerting a lot of self control to not just butt in (mostly because I am being extremely productive and don't wanna get side tracked! so I post about it here) The Tiny Awards is back! @darius I occasionally reference this talk and analogy when describing my professional arc to high schoolers at career day (I am a high value career day target as a game dev married to a high school faculty member!). Excited to learn why, upon a decade of reflection, it is wrong to do that. @darius I still share the idea of your talk with people all the time. It’s such a joy Ill Doctrine is back! After six years away, Jay Smooth is back to making regular videos, starting with this thoughtful look at how the internet and social media changed rap beefs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxcnTVEntEk |
@darius If Fedi can play it's cards right it can succeed in scaring Meta/FB away.
It's possible.
@darius
It's only right that the Torment Nexus and OpenTorment should have mutual wariness when it comes to federation.
@darius happy to be blocked by Threads.
