Okay sounds great. If cloud storage is the biggest deal, then you should be able to find a $5 or $10 #VPS in the country of your choice that will certainly be performance enough. A few bucks more for a decent amount of storage:

https://github.com/nextcloud

If you need more than that, and you're self-hosting NextCloud, then #Wasabi can extend your NextCloud space with #S3 compatible storage buckets that you can literally just plug into your #NextCloud server for dirt cheap terabytes:

https://wasabi.com/#free-trial

This is also an excellent solution for your on demand videos (VoD) that you self-hosted on your own #PeerTube instance (You can run that PeerTube server on the same VPS as your NextCloud insurance too) 🀠.

#Degoogling.... Awesome πŸ‘

There's several major choices and even more services that offer solutions. Some turnkey.

My two favs are #GraphineOS and #CalyxOS. I don't tend to pay too much attention to the rivalry and apparent enmity between these two camps, because they're both trying to support the same thing with respect to #freedoms, so if you already have a #Pixel I think I'd recommend:

https://grapheneos.org/ and there's literally boatloads of videos at your disposal for the DIY. I will say, that although it's quite marginal, my experience has been that this is slightly faster (responsive), but the last time I benchmarked was on a Pixel 3XL that I still enjoy as one of my daily drivers.

The #Calyx_Institute is a well known long-time champion of freedom and protections from #industrial_surveillance #dystopia and I do recommend that folks use the "MiFi" membership service. Here's a little known privacy fact #ProTip - their mobile service anonymizes you - your name appears nowhere in the 5G cellular service plan with the carrier, so you're only one of thousands of 5G devices that's identified by only, "Calyx Institute".

It's pretty much the cheapest plan available anywhere too, and gets even cheaper the second year:

https://calyxinstitute.org/membership/internet

You can also purchase a brand new degoogled phone at a great price too with CalyxOS preinstalled:

https://calyxinstitute.org/membership/calyxos - this is my personal fav, but like I said, GraphineOS and CalyxOS are both phenomenal and GraphineOS is prolly a bit more anal where you're privacy is concerned.

And there's also https://Brax.me - Rob Braxman, he sells degoogled phones and is a great resource for privacy education, but I think I'd opt for one of the previously mentioned #ROMs to flash my #Android.

If you get some time, you might be interested in reading up a bit on Nick Merrill - imagine being in the position of not even being able to attend your own court hearings because that would be a felony❕❕❕ Your attorney can go and represent you, but you cannot. You cannot even tell your own wife ❕❕

He was the first man to fight the injustice of an NSL and to my understanding, to date being the only successful person to do so, which is the only reason we are aware of it today.

It's a very scary thing and he has blogged about his fight and dilemma extensively. It's worth a deep dive and will reinforce why you are doing the right thing by eschewing Google services.

https://calyxinstitute.org/about

I hope that helps!

Big BOOM πŸ’₯ a few minutes ago. I was staring off toward the south and into the sky when I saw the huge flash; 180Β° off into the horizon, from my comfy chair on the back patio.

One thousand one, one thousand two, thousand three, one thousand four, thous...... πŸ’₯ BOOM ❕❕❕

So, geez. Pretty fricken' loud for that distance. Not as far away as the harbor itself, so maybe some crystal methodists dispatched themselves to Valhalla.

In the olden days I'd hit up Twitter coz it was the best for "just happened", local events. People actually understood that kind of democratized power, to disseminate information his before it was possible to even enter a news cycle.

X? It's certainly better than it was before #Elon, but lost had been that hyper local community vibe that made real time distribution such a beautiful possibility in a non commercial distribution channel. I suspect that things will heavily coalesce between spontaneous local... Hubs, for lack of a better term, in a global search enabled environment (again), after this current madness constricting almost all other information through the next couple of weeks.

But then again, this is Los Angeles. Land of πŸ’₯ boom and doom (and I mean that in the most real sense). It's almost a bloodsport and aspects do exist where you can place wagers in some pretty heinous categories. I'm just being matter of fact here.I grew up here.

Shit happens around here. It always has. πŸ’₯ Booms aren't really anything new around here lolz.

I remember a particular big BOOM πŸ’₯ I was standing in the living room one afternoon at my buddy's 'luxury apartment' (The Willow Tree, in Torrance, on PCH, next door to my highschool).

I was stoned out of my mind (on weed, teenager, duh!) and I was facing a sliding glass door (open) mostly occluded by drapes, when suddenly, the drapes activity flew up from the carpeted floor, half way to the ceiling.

Then, as they softly fell back towards their positions in front of the glass in the sliding glass doors themselves, spanning I dunno, 12' maybe, they began violently rattling like a motherfucker! I thought both huge panes were going to shatter, like just eight feet in front of me, standing there like the stoned idiot I was.

I dunno recall exactly how many seconds had passed, at least 8 or 9 I figure but memories actually get warped over time, blyet I've always known distinctly, and I recall, instinctively, that it was an obscene amount of seconds passing before the BOOM πŸ’₯ was to be followed by those drape lifting gusts of wind hitting me in the face.

And it was the biggest BOOM πŸ’₯ that I had ever witnessed, still to this day; and the Port of Los Angeles maybe six or more Miles behind me, when a big ass ship (a really big ass ship) in the harbor was vaporized, lives indelibly within my very Carcass - I shall never, ever, EVER forget that.

Well that's all I really wanted to share. But I would like to ask everyone to take just a moment, no matter what country you're in/from, to reflect with thanks for all the men and women in uniform serving our countries so our children can sleep all comfy and shit at night, with their little Teddy Bears, autobots, ninja turtles, or Peter Rabbits.

Peace be to all, bitches 🀘 🀠🀘 Truly πŸ™‚

@ElleGray Dahlias aren't usually super prolific plants. They'll only put out one or two really nice flowers and then a few stumpy ones. Those nice ones are amazingly nice though. You get to enjoy it for a few days and then have to wait an entire year for the repeat performance.

It's almost not worth bothering to even mention this anymore, as anyone who's not a complete moron should intrinsically know this - considering the news coverage and legal proceedings resulting in the "no expectation of privacy", along with the "everything you do on company resources belongs to the company" paradigm that over the past several decades has been well established, very publicly.

Two things however, that may not have been realized by EVERYONE:

1. ) Anything you DO on company time belongs to the company as well. This includes ideas in your head imagined while on the clock.
2. ) Regardless of what you want to call it: #EMM, MDM, or the new buzz-acronym #UEM (which all means essentially the same thing), when coupled with #BYOD, also pierces your veil of privacy.

I've been on both ends of this for decades as an IT Professional. It's ugly and can be destructive to your (expensive) personal property, so I recommend...

a.) First, don't do ANYTHING on your own personal devices when you're on someone else's clock! See #1 above.

b.) When you show up to work on your first day and they send you down to HR and then tech support, it's very common for them to innocuously ask to see your phone, at which point they'll install an #MDM on it. The best thing you can do then and there is to inform them that if anyone EVER touches your phone you'll break their fucking fingers; and if they want you to have a mobile device with an MDM/UEM installed on it, they can issue one for you from their inventory of existing corporate assets. Otherwise, pound sand bitches.

Yes it's pretty much that simple. Thanks for chiming in πŸ™‚

The legal rep they had (and office which is now closed) was directly threatened by the judge and if I'm not mistaken, has herself left her own country for her personal safety.

So yes indeed, "X" has left the country - literally packed up and left, bye bye. But here's where the show begins to get really entertaining...

#Moraes has himself just crossed the line of what is a completely foreign concept to Americans, as only the legislature is empowered with creating law under our constitution. The courts, interpret law. Sure, there's executive orders but those are NOT laws, not are they ratified treaties. That is the domain of Congress and not the president. And with respect to our judiciary, legislating from the bench is strictly taboo.

Not so in #Brazil, apparently, where this corrupt (Supreme Court) judge has effectively usurped their own lawmaking bodies and is creating law.

I am so loving this! πŸ€˜πŸ’€πŸ€˜

That's right folks! Stripey Sums it up below.

#Fediverse is often misconstrued as that network in the #DeSoc space powered by #ActivityPub exclusively - NOPE!

In fact, even mastobruhs would be wise to note that Eugen's original creation was an #OStatus networked product until quite recently in Fediverse evolution years.

Still, there's a lot of otherwise respected tech personalities that continue to insist and spread disinformation to the contrary. Shame on them - someone, everyone, needs to edjumacate those individuals spreading FUD and confusion to the next generation of n00bs arriving in this free and thriving world of privacy respecting, horizontally scaling, #FOSS based social communication systems.

Apparently, what I've quoted below was part of a larger, longer conversation, yet I'm confident that just what #Stripey points out below in correcting someone else's erroneous assumptions more than correctly describes Fediverse and puts an end to any misunderstanding for all sentient #Fedizens 🀘🀠🀘

Yes, I too am anxiously awaiting the production release debut of #Vernissage server! πŸ‘

The Impressia client, not so much personally. Besides not seeing mention of #Android or F-Droid, I tend to lean towards web UI (especially for graphically oriented content), and I typically avoid single platform #Fediverse clients, them rather lacking in utility.

If I wanted to run five different clients simultaneously then I'd probably be looking for #Linux #Desktop clients anyway; otherwise I'm just going to reach for my trusty #Fedilab client because it has excellent native support for #Pixelfed, the #Misskey and #Pleroma fork families, #Friendica, #TakahΔ“, and other major Fediverse platforms.

Pixelfed already has a single platform Android client and I suspect it will include Vernissage support as well, although I do still prefer how well Fedilab handles that AND most other platforms I use daily - simultaneously. Maybe Impressia is intended to fill that niche on mobile Apple 🍏 devices?

Veering a bit of the topic, #Relatica is a fine single platform Android (and desktop) app for Friendica that I really like.

https://github.com/VernissageApp/VernissageServer

Anyway, unlike the slogan in "The Highlander", it's been shown that, "There can be 'more than' one", and in the visual media realm, I believe that, from what I've seen so far, Vernissage will be a refreshing addition to what we already have in Pixelfed here in the Fediverse!

@FinchHaven @DrPen

Oh my, lolz. With specificity, I recommend you checkout the archives in the Fediverse City Matrix community where do many Fediverse lead devs share, and then there's dozens of news articles and blog posts I've covered over the years with respect to #Fediverse, #ActivityPub, and #FOSS daemons in general.

But real quick, I can offer a couple of nuggets for you to take a look at an evaluate for yourself...

Android:

- Relatica is one of the finest clients for Friendica, not to take my recommendation lightly because I rarely recommend any client specifically designed for a single platform.
- [Fedilab}(https://fedilab.app) is IMO, perhaps the best, supporting your deprecated mastoSilo, #PeerTube, #Pixelfed, #Pleroma, and most other Fediverse platforms and their families of forks.

If the devil is in the details, then translation leveraging via #LibreTranslate, lightning fast cross boosting/liking/bookmarking/scheduling, quote posting, dynamic character count limits per account/server, multiple inpt methods and just way to much to list.

A few years back when many apps were getting booted from the playstore, the trust of their userbases for their crippleware practices when several of them, and most notably tusky hard coded blocked lists of Fediverse servers that their users could not log onto. This violated truth in advertising laws and it's water under the bridge now but the stain remains, and #Fedilab was almost singularly the app that refused to violate the spirit of FOSS or alienate users. Get it at F-Droid.

Web:

- Without a doubt the best experience is almost universally the native web UI. Some exceptions do exist, and have even spawned entire Fediverse server projects. This is unfortunately why I don't use the excellent platform #GoToSocial very often, although I like it, and I no longer use TakahΔ“ much nowadays either since they dropped their excellent web UI.
- Phanpy is a fav of many #Mitra users, although I can't use it because it breaks webfinger addresses through what @cheeaun calls "short usernames", often rendering identification extremely problematic on a regular basis. I prefer the good looking native web UI for Mitra, mitra-web, because Mitra is a privacy conscious publishing platform that does natively support #Monero based for anyone in the Fediverse (think substack or medium but respecting privacy - even anonymity) - I believe Ethereum support has already been completely dropped. Maybe you can still login that way. There's been quite a few specialized projects spawned from Mitra, perhaps not in small part due to it's stubborn commitment to FEP-ef61 along with #Streams - the bleeding edge in Fediverse technology, actively developed by the same dev that created #Friendica, perhaps arguably the oldest extant Fediverse platform πŸ™‚
- I would be remis in my list of I didn't include Pinafore, once considered the most cross-server compliant client, but like anything built with frameworks that are replaced wholesale, the dev felt it just wasn't worth it to go through and completely modernize the base (there's a blog post about why).... Well, there's a lot of pretty third rate clients nowadays, and a few top notch ones too. I'm only giving honorable mention to a few that I recommend you familiarize yourself with for grounding :)

I really like #SocialHome too, another full on Fediverse publishing platform, but the web UI is really the way to go.

Desktop:

I'm only going to mention Sengi talk quick here, there's a few, but here's a bit of advice from someone who's been administering #Linux servers since 1992 and #UNIX in general since the 80's - avoid snap and flatpaks and appimage unless you're rolling your own or there's just no choice for your skill level.

Okay I kinda like Whalebird to, it's what I use for GoToSocial and I like it for #Misskey flavors too, including #Iceshrimp and #CherryPickπŸ’ is a fav in that family too.

I've tested very little of anything in Windows however, and completely, categorically dismiss anything Apple 🍏 that's Post-Woz 😜

I hope that helps! Live long and prosper πŸ––

Hi Jerry,

I'm glad you asked. Short answer is, instead of losing a relevant percentage of your viewership strictly because they refuse to watch BOTH the ads you yourself include as segments in your videos to promote your paying sponsors, AND the ads that ABC (Google/YouTube) injects midstream through "server-side ad insertion", you can, as the video producer:

- Include copyright/licensing card at the beginning of your videos that use Creative Commons licenses of the *No Derivatives type, superceding anything that Google tries to impose.
- Truncate your videos with prominent links and explanations following a teaser sequence as to how to actually support you as the producer, whether you're monetized or not, by providing them with the links and directing interested viewers to the #FOSS platforms where they can watch the rest of this video uninterrupted along with all your other videos... for free, and without tracking or invasive privacy mining ⛏️ techniques being imposed upon them and included with their video viewing experience.
- You have to be the creator that demands a moral and ethical delivery network that doesn't have your viewers like sheep to a slaughter - which is what you're doing when you are the enabler of evil like Google.

Notwithstanding the fact that most content on open platforms like YouTube is garbage, if you think this is an unworkable business model, then all that means is that you're a lame-o and your videos suck dick because it's the model that works wonderfully for the lions share of producers who actually publish quality material and enjoy huge followings

I hope that helps! Enjoy πŸ™‚
