Hello new Mastodon user! 👋
You maybe heard about, that some users are saying to you that mastodon isn't the only software to get into the Fediverse, so let me explain.

The Fediverse is made up not only from one server (like Twitter) but from many servers. Just like your email adress there are severall ones to use (e.g. @gmail.com, @hotmail.com, @gmx.de, etc). So there are a lot of so called instances in the Fediverse. (You probably knew that already)

Yet there isn't just one software to run those instances. Mastodon is the best known to many people and it appears to be one of the most commonly used one. But there are also other software like Pleroma, Misskey, Friendica, etc. that all can communicate with each other.

All of those have advantages and disadvantages. Just ask around and people will help you. Mastodon is a good thing to start with, if you are new around the Fediverse, but if you have time and want to see how thinks work differently on different instances just take a look around. Many users will point you to good administered instances that welcome new users.

And if you don't like it, you can always delete the account and go back to Mastodon.

Just keep in mind that the Fediverse has way more to offer than mastodon supports.
