Mastodon is becoming the new GNU/Linux naming controversy.
I see news articles mentioning that the fediverse started in 2016 when Mastodon got created, even though GNU Social and others had already been around since 2010 and laid the groundwork, they get none of the credit.
It's "Linus invented the operating system in 1992" all over again while nobody mentions GNU had been working on it since the 80s.
