@mousey @jwz But see. That’s the thing. No one is forcing anyone to do anything. Are they making the choice as easy as possible to make? Hell yeah. But this notion that they’re forced to use these platforms is just alarmist bullshit.

@tnypxl @mousey @jwz to me it sounds like a bunch of folks who don't understand what Bluesky the company is trying to do with AT Proto. I hear "jack dorsey" and my eyes glaze over. Maybe I'm wrong and they all know the details. But IMHO it's just another social network with federation options. Oh and pluggable algorithms. Would be nice if Mastodon had that.

@jasonekratz @mousey @jwz Dorsey is a total knob. But I don’t know that any normal person would be willing to run a social platform of any kind in this era. Federation is honestly the best path forward in IMHO. Small web, no monoliths. I’m kind of hoping peer-to-peer takes off too.

@tnypxl @jasonekratz @jwz he says on a community collective driven network of social nwtworks peopled by millions. I volunteer to help run the instance in my area. So it *is* happening.

also. yeah, ATproto is gonna be crap, and reflect google-like lockin, which is what they want.

@tnypxl @jwz i would be *very* alarmed, if people were *forced* to, (though technically some people are, like for their work), it's fine that it's not mandatory.

that's not what i mean. nobody's forcing you to. People think the value proposition is worth it. They're just wrong, and now they're puppets in the profit-driven-political-influence-army machines, with no say in their interactions.

as long as it continues to be a choice, i agree..

not alarmist, iust really sad, and socially harmful.
