I'll spend a good minute or two looking at the profile, wondering why I would follow this person.

They should be colored differently in the feed or something, it's really disorienting.

@denspier the problem is not seeing the content, the problem is the content is indistinguishable from that of people I actually follow

@darius Adding a feature that indicates when someone is not directly followed, but who’s post is only shown because it was either boosted or quoted, or had a hashtag that we do follow, ought to be simple enough. Perhaps some apps already do? @ivory perhaps?

@darius This is why I never follow hashtags in my Home feed and just pin them as a separate column in the Mastodon interface instead. Easy browsing, no confusion.

Though I have accidentally followed tags a few times by pressing on the + icon (since removed in 4.2) next to the column settings button.

@darius and this is the exact problem with following hashtags. There has to be a quality filter.
