Another test on another piece of soapstone scrap. Attempting something trickier to see just how tricky it is and what sort of logistical issues come into pulling it off: carving two independent, interlocking pieces from the same block.
Happy to have pulled it off at a basic level—didn’t break either piece—and definitely needing to think hard about planning and process if I want something cleaner and less lopsided than ovoid chain links.
I was constrained significantly by the piece of scrap I was working with being fairly narrow on one dimension, but as a result I made getting the two links cleanly apart more difficult than I imagined it might be. Visualizing the spatial relationship with the two rings ahead of time did not come entirely naturally, and having them lay on a close diagonal made carving out the space between much trickier than it needed to be I think.
