30 million Instagram users already signed up on Threads according to Zuckerberg, they could have more active users then Twitter by next week... I think we are underestimating the severity of this move...

@liaizon at this point I have to wonder if it's even possible to federate with them for the majority of instances, or if the risk of blowing up your server is too great?

@liaizon How many will stick around? All of them since they cannot delete their accounts.

@liaizon

I think it made a lot of sense given their IG user base.

But this is a hype novelty moment. Whether the platform gets the basics right enough to be a Twitter substitute without the problems people have with it probably remains to be seen … incl how much IG culture can be transplanted onto microblogging without being crap.

Otherwise, yea, this could be a great fracturing of big social, which probably suits ActivityPub and fediverse well.

@liaizon
people signed up to see what it is about (and now they can't delete their account), but will they want to stay?

a non chronological feed full of people you didn't choose to follow it's bold move

@liaizon working as intended tbh - and also again just demonstrates how powerful meta's social graph is.
